**About the Job**:
The P.E.A.C.E. program (Prevention, Education, Advocacy, Counselling, Empowerment) provides culturally sensitive, child-centered individual and group counselling for children and youth ages 3-18 who have witnessed and/or experienced family violence.
The PEACE counsellor ensures day-to-day delivery of the program is run in a professional and efficient manner with attention to confidentiality and in compliance with Atira Women’s Resource Society's (The Society's) policies and philosophy. This means going to each of the White Rock programs to facilitate the peace program, connecting with community members and having the group run from the White Rock office. The counsellor provides non-judgmental, feminist-based support, advocacy and information to women and their children who access the P.E.A.C.E. program and maintains strong working relationships with and awareness of complementary agencies and groups in the community. The counsellor must have specific knowledge regarding available community resources, private and government.
As P.E.A.C.E. counsellor, you need to Supports women and children who live in the White Rock community and/or accesses Atira programs in Surrey (White Rock) and Newton to meet their goals and objectives, receives referrals, interviews, and makes decisions with respect to the eligibility of a child who’s caregiver requests support from the PEACE program, plans, organizes, implements PEACE session plans and activities to meet individual’s needs, provides program users with information on the PEACE program, guidelines for participation and arranges referrals to additional resources where appropriate, develops and delivers culturally-appropriate supportive programming, individually or in groups, for program participants who have experienced violence, abuse or threats of violence. Encourages and facilitates individual participation in sessions and activities; and provides guidance and instruction, provides skill-building to participants such as life skills and social skills; and models appropriate behaviour. Facilitates an understanding of the emotional and psychological impact of trauma resulting from abusive or violent experiences while respecting participants’ own culture, values, beliefs and choices, monitors and observes participants’ behaviour. Reports all problems or concerns to the supervisor or their designate, maintains related records and statistics and produces reports as required. Ensures all required reports and paperwork are completed on time and copied to direct supervisor, maintains the safety and cleanliness of program spaces and inventory. Responds to emergencies in accordance with established policies and guidelines, develop and maintain relationships with related services (e.g. counselling programs, social services, drug and alcohol services, the police etc.) Acts as a liaison with the community and promotes/encourages community involvement in the PEACE program. Establishes and maintains a rapport with professionals, community agencies and service providers, maintains a current awareness of developments in assigned areas of responsibility as they relate to child and youth programming; the PEACE program; and parenting support programs, drives, accompanies and/or transports children and youth to activities related to the PEACE program as required. Provides accompaniment and advocacy for medical, legal or social services appointments, as required.
