**Who we are**:
Since 1997, iHuman Youth Society has engaged Edmonton’s marginalized youth to foster positive personal development, wellbeing, and social change. We are a charity located in Edmonton’s city centre that provides arts programming and support services to youth ages 12-24 who face barriers. All young people are welcome at iHuman. We support youth impacted by the negative outcomes associated with poverty, intergenerational trauma, addiction, mental health, abuse, racism, discrimination, and exploitation. We provide free access to our services and programs, where youth actively engage in determining their individualized journey through our resources and guide how we can support them.
**What is the role**:
We are hiring up to four positions for **Youth Worker Summer Students.** Working with the iHuman team, the Youth Worker will directly support youth who access programs and services offer through our organization.
- **Hours of work**:10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on occasion hours outside of these hours
- **Hourly Wage**: $19/hour
- **Start Date**: As soon as possible for up to 15 weeks
- **Location**: 9635 102A Ave NW
**What are the responsibilities**:
- Welcome and support young people who enter our HYPE space and access our services
- Provide young people with basic needs such as food, clothing, and other essential services
- Refer to other supports and services for young people
- Assist young people in connecting with mental health, harm reduction, and substance use services within the organization
- Aid young people in navigating appointments in the art studios, mental health clinic, outreach services, Indigenous cultural supports, and family programs
**Eligibility for the role**:
- Between fifteen and thirty years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment
- Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and refugee Protection Act
- Be legally entitled to work in Alberta and Canada
**Qualifications**:
- Student in or graduate of a College, University or Institute program where curriculum includes youth care, social work, human services or other relevant topics
- Any related experience work supporting youth
- Proficiency with MS Office
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- High level of organization skills with attention to detail
- Energetic and able to contribute positively within a team environment
- Obtain and have clear criminal record check including the vulnerable sector search and child intervention check
