** ACCOUNTABLE TO**: Senior General Counsel/Head Legal Officer
**Brief Overview**:
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Provide direct support to the MN-S Senior General Counsel and Head Legal Officer.
- Assist in advancing strategic legal priorities of the MN-S.
- Prepare, draft, and manage legal and intergovernmental correspondence and documentation.
- Maintain accurate records and notes in compliance with Law Society document retention standards; stay informed of updates and best practices.
- Liaise with MN-S departments, locals, regions, Provincial Métis Council, and the Métis Nation Legislative Assembly to gather information and respond to inquiries.
- Conduct research using sources such as the Saskatchewan Corporate Registry (ISC) and other legal databases.
- Support legal counsel with documentation review, research, and meeting preparation.
- Manage calendars and scheduling for legal leadership.
- Organize and maintain electronic and paper legal files, ensuring records are current and accessible.
- Monitor legal developments relevant to MN-S rights and interests.
- Collaborate with legal leadership and senior executives to ensure efficient handling of legal matters with discretion and confidentiality.
- Foster strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support legal and strategic objectives.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with senior management to support informed decision-making.
- Adhere to applicable legislation, MN-S policies, and professional standards.
- Ensure the confidentiality, accuracy, and safekeeping of all legal records and information.
- Maintain and update legal databases, manuals, and reference materials.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
**Qualifications**:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- Knowledge of legal procedures and protocols is essential.
- Proficiency with the principles, concepts, and methods of legal research and analysis is also required.
- Completion of a legal assistant or paralegal program is considered an asset but not required.
- Paralegal experience collaborating with in-house counsel would be considered an asset but not required.
- Experience with legal project management software is an asset, with familiarity in LEAP and PCLaw considered especially valuable, though not required.
**Knowledge and Skills**:
- Knowledge and understanding of Métis culture, history, citizens, and communities will be an asset.
- Ability to learn and grow with the Métis Nation-Saskatchewan through our shared experiences.
- Advanced computer skills, including knowledge of Adobe and Microsoft Office programs such as Outlook, Word, Publisher, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
- Ability to always maintain strict confidentiality.
- Demonstrates effective communication skills including speaking, writing, and active listening, with the ability to confidently engage and convey information across all levels of the organization.
- The ability to work on-site and navigate an evolving, changing work environment.
- Knowledge of project management and scheduling software.
- Demonstrates strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, multitask effectively, meet deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- Skills in general administrative functions, including accurate typing, filing, ordering office supplies, maintaining office supplies and equipment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy in demanding situations.
- Knowledge of terminology, grammar, vocabulary, and spelling used in the legal field.
**Additional Requirements**:
- Must provide an acceptable Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check prior to starting employment.
- Valid Saskatchewan driver’s license and reliable transportation.
