**The Opportunity**:
The Local Planner is responsible for effectively and profitability moving freight within Canada, while maintaining a low percentage of empty miles.

**Key Accountabilities**:

- The majority of time is spent planning trucks effectively to reduce empty miles; effectively managing the empty miles ratios
- Dispatching trucks on planned loads; tracks dispatched trucks on a daily basis to ensure on-time performance
- Networking with partner carriers for lane balancing
- Daily completion of Load Link - ensuring all available trucks and loads are posted accurately
- Completes order entry for both high way and local loads
- Completes data inquiry updates (DIU) which involves updating order information (shipping / receiving hours or appointment times; contact information; customs information)
- Books pickup and delivery appointments as needed
- Completes rating to ensure all outbound and local loads are profitable
- Provides after hours support to other divisions as required
- Performs other duties as required

**Qualifications**:

- Secondary School diploma is required
- Minimum of 2-3 years of dispatching experience is required
- Experience in the transportation industry considered to be an asset
- Possess a good working knowledge of North American geography
- Positive, outgoing and friendly personality
- Strong self-discipline to effectively complete tasks without constant supervision
- Self-starter with strong analytical, organizational and problem solving skills
- Familiarity with Loadlink and MS Excel
- Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability to work independently and as a team
