**Summary of Duties**:
Reports to and carries out work under the direction of a Manager in Planning and Development. Undertakes and assists staff in a variety of planning, and urban design assignments and studies, including research, survey, data-gathering, data maintenance, and data analysis. Provides support with the update of process standards, and graphic and design assistance in the preparation of reports and studies. Makes presentations, where necessary, to various groups including Advisory Committees, Standing Committees, Stakeholder Meetings, and the General Public.
**Work Performed**:
- Under the direction of a Manager in Planning and Development, undertakes research, survey, data-gathering, data monitoring, data analysis, and mapping analysis related to planning projects. Update of planning procedures, templates and written practices and assist in the preparation of various policy and alterations to agreements. Collections of observational data and site visits will be required.
- Assist with graphics in the preparation of reports and presentations. Develops illustrative urban design drawings, maps (and 3D modeling) to assist Planning and Development staff in their projects. Undertakes site and building photography; and produces graphic illustrations, modelling and mapping.
- Review existing conditions of draft approval and prepare reports on possible modifications.
- Participate as part of a team reviewing site plan process. Assist in the discussions with selected client groups on a variety of development approval processes.
- Assist in conducting municipal surveys relating to the Departmental responsibilities and assisting with research and preparation of municipal standards. Conducts, or assists in the preparation of studies and projects relating to the immediate and long term planning and development of land, facilities and services, including the study of demographic, socio-economic, physical and environmental factors; solicits input from other departments, divisions, agencies and the public.
- Provides information to other planning staff, municipal departments, agencies, elected officials, community organizations and the general public.
- Assists in the organization and participates in presentation/public meeting set-up, and attends meetings of the Planning and Environment Committee, other Standing Committees, Advisory Committees, and citizen groups, as required.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
**Qualifications**:
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s program in a planning, urban design or a planning-related, University or College program.
- Student must be enrolled in a full-time academic program returning to full-time studies September 2025 and/or require this placement to graduate from an academic program.
**Specialized Training & Licenses**:
Skills & abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of the _Planning Act _and urban design principles and best practices.
- Strong computer skills in MS Windows programs including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Working knowledge of related design, mapping and modelling software, such as SketchUp, AutoCAD, Adobe Create Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and ArcGIS is an asset.
- Ability to travel to various locations within London.
- Valid Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle an asset.
**Compensation & Other Information**:
$22.44/hour.
This posting is for one (1) temporary full-time up to 4 month student positions (May - September 2025).
Current hours of Work: Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Work Arrangement: In office/on site.
