On-call Child Minding Assistant

The Resettlement Assistance Program (“RAP”) offers immediate and essential services to Government Assisted Refugees (GARs) that arrive in London, Ontario. The RAP’s services include temporary accommodation, income assistance, assistance in finding permanent accommodation, basic orientation, and links to settlement programming and federal and provincial programs to Government-Assisted Refugees (GARs) and other eligible clients who arrive in Canada following an overseas identification and selection process. Job Purpose
Reporting to the Childminding Supervisor, the Childminding Assistant is responsible for implementing, and supervising the Childminding Program activities to meet the needs of children ages 2-12 of newcomer families who are receiving services at Cross-Cultural Learner Centre, while ensuring health and safety. Required Qualifications
**Education**:
1.
Member in good standing of the College of Early Childhood Educators.
2.
Current CPR and First Aid Certificates relevant to the age group.
**Experience**:
1.
Minimum of two years of experience as an Early Childhood Educator.
Physical/Manual Competencies:
1.
Ability to operate normal office equipment such as computers and printers.
2.
Computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
3.
Ability to set up and take down equipment used in the program

Program Services (80%):
Implement Childminding Program activities ensuring program activities focus on children’s holistic development (physical, social, emotional, intellectual, etc), enjoyment and learning.
Maintain a welcoming, safe and healthy environment for children and their parents or caregivers.
Liaise with and act as a resource for parents and caregivers; keeping parents informed of program activities.
Assist in the development of programs and activities that are culturally appropriate provide various experiences for children including songs, games and storytelling.
Provide coverage for Childminding Assistants when required; ensure children are always supervised.
Ensure that equipment and the facility are clean, well maintained, and safe at all times; ensure facility is in compliance with safety regulations, such as local fire codes, disability access and other laws.Maintain provincial standards and regulations and keep up to date with current child care philosophy.
Attend meetings and workshops to develop and discuss new teaching methods or activities for children.
Administration (20%):
Participate actively in all mandated training, staff meetings and workshops.
Operate in accordance with the policies, guidelines, and protocols of the program and partner organizations.
Promote a positive image of the Childminding Program to the public and clients of CCLC.
Be familiar with all Cross Culture Learner Centre emergency procedures.
Other duties shall be assigned as required. Job Characteristics:
Decision Making
Makes decisions related to program activities in consultation with the Childminding Supervisor.
Follows policies, guidelines and procedures in making decisions.
Working Relationship:
Works under mínimal supervision from Childminding Supervisor.
Communicates with a wide range of audience including children, parents and/or caregivers, community partners. Working Conditions:
Must pass a background/police/criminal record check. Hours of work: Hours are not guaranteed - hours are requested based on operational needs. Mostly works hours within the scope of 8.30 am to 4.30 pm, Monday to Friday, some overtime including evening and weekend work, may be required. Some travel within London. Conditions:
May be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc.Interacts with children, youths, family members, staff, and visitors.Intermittent physical activity including walking, standing, sitting, lifting, etc., in the support of children and children’s activities.
