Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Hybrid)
We are looking for a Hardware Project Lead to join our team in Toronto.
Key Responsibilities:
- Planning of group activities on one or multiple projects by using the appropriate management tools to define and schedule the tasks
- Verifying that all assigned work has been completed accurately, efficiently, and on time
- Responsible for the quality and integrity of the hardware designs and all related documentation, for conducting technical reviews, and for ensuring changes are in line with objectives
- Ensuring that assigned work proceed according to project schedule, within budget, and in accordance with all requirements - including revising plans and forecasts as required to accommodate changes in circumstances
- May be required to perform administrative tasks such as approving timesheets, vacation requests and may assist in the selection, appraisal, and evaluation of staff as required
- Carries out all assigned work efficiently, with a minimum of supervision, in accordance with company and departmental processes
- Presents effective solutions to problems or inefficiencies in the department’s operation
- Makes timely decisions, both independently and in concert with others, after a thorough evaluation of all relevant factors
- Keeps track of progress on all assigned tasks and verifies that all assigned work has been completed accurately
- Responsible for the quality and integrity of the hardware designs and all related documentation, for conducting technical reviews, and for ensuring changes are in line with objectives
- Ensures both the safety and quality of hardware products while reducing the deployment cost of those products
- Contributes to the heightened reuse of product hardware and contributes to improvements in hardware quality
- Prepares specifications for hardware and/or software components or devices
- Interprets, identifies, and documents requirements such that customer needs are met within the budget and schedule constraints
- Develops appropriate design architecture
- Reviews any applicable specifications, standards, rules, etc. and ensure that the appropriate actions resulting from this review have been taken
- Implement designs using good design practice and applicable standards and guidelines
- Up to 10% travel can be expected (both domestic and international)
Required Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
- Over 10 years of experience in industry with the following: Cabling; Grounding techniques and Surge Protection
- Professional experience with the following electrical engineering principles: Power circuits design; Electronic circuits including Microprocessors and Telecommunications circuits
- Professional experience with engineering tools such as: CAD system (AutoCAD); Multi-meters; Oscilloscopes and Protocol Analyzers
- Well-developed verbal skills to allow clear communication without ambiguity
- Proven track record in designing complex electrical or electronics products
- Well-developed writing skills to allow documents, work packages, etc. to be prepared in a clear and concise format with sufficient information so that further clarification is not required
- The ability to follow directions and work instructions, and to use good judgement in the performance of assigned work
- The ability to effectively present pros and cons for various courses of action
- Proficient skills that are current with the technology of the discipline
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
- Minimum 12 years of experience in the Railway Signalling industry
- Proven track record of designing, installation, and testing of communication-based train control on-board equipment
- Formulating or contributing to the development of new designs
- Devising and running tests to verify functionality, and identifying and solving problems
- Excellent understanding of the train interfaces and train operations
- Familiar with train maintenance, train components, sub-systems and various train designs from different manufacturers
- Understand, read, and design train interface electrical schematics
- Deep understanding of the CENELEC and AREMA railway standards regarding on-board equipment
- Experienced in performing train surveys
- Ability to support bids by defining technical solutions and review the materials list
- Professional Engineer's License (P.Eng.)
