**Position Description**:Afternoon Warehouse Supervisor
**Hours**: 2:00pm - 10:30pm
**Reports To**:Regional Supply Chain Manager
**Direct Reports**:Warehouse Staff/Material Handlers
Loaders
Afternoon Lead hand
**Primary Objectives**:
- Maintain and improve profitability through:
- Providing daily direction to the warehouse team
- Establishing and maintaining exceptional customer service and positive relationships with customers, branches and employees
- Working to resolve issues and errors positively
- Supervise, develop and coach employees by:
- Conducting regular team sessions, ensuring that all team members are clear on their overall and daily priorities
- Fairly and consistently enforcing company policies and procedures to maintain a positive and productive work environment
- Ensuring staff is receiving proper training to maximize their effectiveness in the position
- Handling any employee questions or issues as they arise
- Work with other Warehouse Supervisors/ Leads to identify and address gaps in performance with a plan for improvement
- Monitor picking and loading employee tasks to ensure they are using their time efficiently and working safely
- Addressing picking immediately through coaching the individual to ensure that the error is corrected
- Ensure warehouse cleanliness and organization to improve overall safety in the warehouse
- Establish and maintain excellent customer service in:
- Ensuring that all products delivered to a customer or branch will be the proper quantity of the proper product with the appropriate packaging
- Ensure that all safety standards are met and exceeded as outlined in the Company Safety Manual
- Demonstrate personal responsibility and accountability daily with regard to attitude, job performance, professionalism and commitment to continuous development
- Support and promote the company’s Core Values of Personal Excellence, Teamwork and Achievement
**Safety Accountabilities**:
- Communication: Responsible for all Health & Safety communication to employees i.e. new or updated policies/procedures, monthly safety talks, reviews of near misses and audits at branch meeting.
- Safety Practices: Demonstrate leadership in Health & Safety by ensuring that workers follow safe work practices when performing their required tasks. Correct substandard acts or conditions in a timely manner.
- Compliance: Work in compliance with Section 27 of the OHSA (Duties of Supervisors)
- Workplace Inspections: Participate in completing workplace inspections (min. 2 per year) and perform employee safety observations regularly.
- Accident Investigations: Ensure a high calibre of accident investigation in the branch i.e. timely, thorough, forms completed.
- Training: Attend a Health & Safety training program yearly and keep up to date on and follow company Health & Safety policies/procedures.
- Maintain equipment: Maintain a regular schedule of maintenance on any branch equipment or vehicles in addition to responding to unpredictable malfunctions or issues.
- Be aware of the common hazards in this position (following safety procedures and using caution): Ergonomic injuries, trips, slips, cuts, lifting incorrectly, hand/foot injuries, working on ladders; equipment hazards)
- Conduct new employee Health and Safety orientation
**Other Key Accountabilities**:
- Schedule staff to ensure proper coverage for department at all times
- Determine priorities and ensure work duties are assigned accordingly
- Audit performance in the warehouse
- Managing shipping supplies for the branch and maintain warehouse equipment
- Remove damaged/ineffective equipment from the warehouse
- Call for maintenance when required or advise of needed repairs on machinery
- Review reports to ensure that the picking process is working efficiently, resulting in the shipment of zero errors to our customers and branches
- Conduct new employee probation reviews
- Conduct annual employee performance appraisals
- Handle all employee-related issues quickly and in strict confidence
- Track payroll information, including overtime hours and absences. Forward to appropriate person
- Communicate with other supervisor at beginning/end of shift to determine outstanding issues that require attention during their shift
- Communicate with other branches at the end of shift to inform of outstanding issues that require their attention
- Ensure the building and premises are secure as required by following the Lock up procedures: building is locked, trailer doors are closed, lights out and alarm on prior to departing for the evening
- Other related duties as assigned
**Requirements**:
- Three to five years industry experience with demonstrated product knowledge
- Two to three years general warehouse experience
- Proven supervisory skills including experience hiring, coaching, disciplining, scheduling and providing training for employees
