**Job Description**:
Reporting to the IPAC Manager & Resident Program Manager, the Resident Assistant is responsible for assisting the environmental, activity and nursing staff in tasks that require no hands-on care of the resident.

Duties include: transporting residents to programs, dining room and appointments within the Home; answering call bells, delivering items to residents and messages to the nursing staff; maintaining organization in resident’s rooms and maintaining supplies, assisting with resident nutrition, providing 1:1 resident support; performing high-touch cleaning throughout the home, assisting with laundry and high-low dusting during deep cleans, assisting with programs and conducting audits throughout the home.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

- Transport resident to onsite programming, dining room and internal appointments; accommodates residents’ right to choice.
- Performs tasks such as: cleaning spills; making beds and changing linens; maintain a clean, tidy and safe environment in the Home including the resident’s room; labelling of personal grooming items; putting away personal laundry; disinfecting high touch surfaces and regularly organizing resident closets and drawers.
- Assists with nutrition and feeding, including but not limited to: distributing cloth protectors for meal times; setting up the dining room for meals and clearing dishes after meals; assisting with feeding of residents.
- Assist resident with hand washing before and after meals
- Disinfect high touch areas throughout the home including but not limited to:

- Handrails,
- Dirty laundry carts,
- Chairs in the dining room and hallways,
- Office areas (the meeting room, and education room),
- Stairwells,
- Elevators,
- Keypads,
- Break Areas,
- Lounge rooms.
- Refill isolation containers with PPE supplies in nursing throughout the home.
- Assist laundry aides and housekeepers.
- Conduct audits as assigned.
- Provides 1:1 resident support.
- Answer call bells and communicate residents’ concerns to staff.
- Collaborates with residents, families and team members to maintain a positive, supportive and safe environment for all.
- Participate in Quality Improvement activities and advocates for the resident/family individual needs and preferences.
- Communicates positively with other staff, residents and families.
- Demonstrates empathy, concern and interest in providing quality care and service to resident.
- Escalate concerns to the team lead as needed.
- Follow proper safety and screening procedures for themselves as required.
- Ensure Health and Safety policies and procedures are adhered to, according to Extendicare policies.
- Deliver items to residents from their families.

Any other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Delegate.
