We are located in the City of Regina on Treaty 4 land, which is recognized as the traditional territory of the nêhiyawak/Cree, Nahkawē/Saulteaux, Anihšināpēk, Dakota, Lakota, Nakoda, and the homeland of the Métis Nation.
The Regina Open Door Society (RODS) is currently seeking a qualified individual for a full-time term position of Health Services Facilitator/Educator. This position will commence on January 2,2025 to March 31,2025 with a possibility of extension
**Position**Description**:
Working closely with RODS management team, partners and staff the Health Services Facilitator/Educator is responsible for educational healthcare support services to help refugee clients with complex health needs adapt successfully to life in Regina. This will be accomplished through the provision of intensive hands-on information and educational supports in the clients' first language through interpreters, focusing on areas of client health challenges and needs based on a professional medical assessment through the services delivered through RODS formal partnership with the Regina Community Clinic and Primary Health (The Saskatchewan Health Authority).
**Desired**qualifications/education**:
This position requires a Bachelor of social Sciences degree and/or minimum of 3 years' experience in healthcare field. Knowledge and awareness of the health challenges common to high-risk refugee families and of the cultural values and practices within the immigrant/refugee community are also desirable. Requirements will also include knowledge of the healthcare system; healthcare services and supports and the demonstrated ability to relate to families undergoing high degrees of stress.
Demonstrated maturity, the ability to work cross culturally, a positive attitude, the ability to document cases, effective organizational, communication, time management and excellent computer skills will be necessary.
The successful applicant will also require a criminal record check, reliable vehicle, valid driver's license, and a clean driver abstract.
**Primary**Responsibilities**:
- Conduct health-related needs assessment with newly arrived Government Assisted
Refugees shortly after their arrival to determine their unmet health needs. Provide referrals to services that address the identified needs
- Respond to address the emergency health needs of Government Assisted Refugees
- Manage the cases of clients with complex health needs
- Provide government and private sponsored refugees health assessment referral to public health, the Regina Community Clinic, other agencies
- Assist Settlement Case Workers with airport reception, when they are receiving
newcomers with a disability and high/complex medical needs
- Work with Public Health Nurse to ensure clients with disabilities are receiving housing needs assessment. This position will work with RAP Case Workers to provide clients with disability a permanent accommodation that meets their needs as recommended by Public Health Nurse
- Work with Saskatchewan Health Authority to ensure clients with disabilities receive housing assessment. Following the assessment work service provider and IFH to assist newcomers in accessing types of equipment that will make their permanent accommodation accessible
- Organize an annual Health Fair and dental and flu clinics
- Before the arrivals of newcomers, review IOM new arrival needs assessment and IRCC recommendations, and facilitate health and other support services that will address the identified needs of the individual /family
- Facilitate access to health services and medical equipment for Government Sponsored Refugee
- Provide direct health information, education support to refugee families and individuals, including home visits as needed based on health assessment.
- Facilitate educational opportunities and support services for refugees/immigrants diagnosed with communicable and other diseases.
- Coordinate/provide educational and newcomer health-related information sessions to RODS clients
- Collaborate with the Regina Community Clinic, RODS staff, Public Health and other medical practitioners to facilitate primary and other health services to refugee families.
- As needed (depending on availability of office assistant support to RODS on-site Health Clinic), the position will support the day-to-day activities of the clinic and Public Health Nurse (tracking outcomes, referrals and keeping up with paperwork).
- Collaborate with the Regina Community Clinic, RODS staff, Public Health and other medical practitioners to facilitate primary and other health services to refugee families.
