**Job Summary**
This entry/junior-level position reflects employees with no previous knowledge or experience related to scrap metals and recycling. The yard worker/labourer must have the ability to learn and a strong work ethic. The yard worker/labourer will assist in several aspects of daily operations, such as scrap inspection, sortation, and general yard maintenance, as directed. The labourer must have good communication skills and use them at all times to ensure safety among co-workers, drivers, peddlers, and contractors.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Inspect and manually sort the incoming scrap material per instructions provided by the supervisor or the senior colleagues per required quality standards and grading.
- Assist in ferrous/non-ferrous sorting and processing as directed by the supervisor.
- Look for any non-conforming materials through effective communication with the co-workers and the yard supervisor.
- Ensure non-conforming objects have been removed from incoming scrap, such as gas and propane tanks, and batteries.
- Ensure radioactive materials are removed from inbound/outbound scrap material and quarantined properly.
- Detect and report faulty tools, equipment, environmental hazards, and safety hazards to the supervisor. Follow all of the established K&K safety, environmental, and routine procedures specific to the yard.
- Assist co-workers in general operational duties that are essential to the yard in terms of safety, efficiency, and profitability.
- General house-keeping duties: sweeping work area and removal of garbage
- Provide excellent customer service
- Promote and practice K&K core values
**Qualifications**
- High school diploma is preferred but not required.
- No prior experience is required, but working in a scrap metal or recycling facility would be an asset.
- Must have a safety and compliance mindset and follow all Safe Work procedures required for the job.
- Capable of doing physical labour, manual lifting (up to 45 lbs) and sorting the materials.
- Ability to use power and hand tools
- Trained or willing to learn operating loaders, forklifts, bobcats, or skid steers
- Working outside with moving equipment around in the extreme weather conditions
- Willing to work extended and flexible hours; the flexibility to work afternoons, evenings and weekends (when needed)
- Good communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to remain focused in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to act as a team player and assist co-workers when needed.

Pay: $20.00-$22.00 per hour
