Junior Estimator

**Forbes Bros Ltd. is** looking for a qualified **Junior Estimator (full-time)** to join our growing **FB Bullet** team in **Surrey BC.** specializing in shallow utility construction in the lower mainland, the Forbes team continues to see significant business growth in the region.

The _Junior Estimator_ joining the Forbes Family will demonstrate well-developed skill and knowledge of unit price and lump sum civil estimating, bidding, project management/coordination experience and general knowledge of the principals involved in the operation of construction and maintenance methods and procedures.

**Responsibilities: This role has two aspects to it, Estimating and Unitized Work Scope Coordination - the tasks go hand in hand**

**Key Responsibilities, Estimating**:

- Reads, reviews, and understands the project requirements and scope of work prior to estimating, inclusive of but not limited to jurisdictional specific requirements
- Collaborates with other managers, project engineers and discipline leads during various stages of estimate development
- During execution plans to support estimate development
- After award to develop budgets, schedules, and plans for the various elements of a project
- Acts as the company to client representation, and selected subcontractors, through planning, development, and execution stage of project cycle in support of estimating activities
- Review and compare subcontractor/supplier quotes with other vendors
- Analyze client RFP documents to determine contractual and technical requirements
- Manage subcontractor process to ensure quotes are levelled properly
- Responsible for the development and distribution of a one to two-page description of the project methodology and estimate basis to all members of the project team for reference during handover phase between Bid Award to Execution
- Assist with the development and production of required change orders during project execution, as required
- Tenders, negotiates, and prepares trade subcontracts and purchase agreements not provided by pre-construction services
- Perform other tasks related to this function as assigned

**Key Responsibilities, Unitized Work Scope Coordination**:

- Act as the internal lead for unitized work scope summary creation and review before submission to client
- Provide training, oversight, and measure production of Operations Coordinators
- Perform drawing take offs via AutoCAD or similar software, to perform PRE work unit estimates
- Collaboratively review provided information from field staff to convert summary information into unitized estimates
- Work with operational leads to ensure process and efficiencies are consistently being reviewed and updated as necessary
- Work closely with the Project Controller to ensure accurate reporting and accruals are visible and provided
- Perform other tasks related to this function as assigned

**What Are We Looking For**:

- Post-secondary degree/diploma in related discipline
- Minimum two (2) years of estimating experience with expertise in Civil and Underground services
- Advanced software skills in Microsoft Excel and scheduling software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera)
- Strong communication skills from internal clients and external customer service/client relations
- Existing knowledge of WorkSafeBC standards and policies is an asset for this position
