Primary Focus
Under the direction of the Chief Scientist and Vice-President of Evidence, the Director has overall responsibility for the strategic leadership of Health Economics. To address customers’ needs for timely and relevant products and services, the Director has responsibility for quality standards for evidence-based reviews of economic information and best practices in health economics across the spectrum and life cycle of products and services, and alignment with health technology assessment (HTA) best practices.
What do the daily responsibilities look like?
**On any given day, the Director, Health Economics will**:

- lead and oversee the Health Economics team to deliver high-quality, evidence-based reviews of economic information for products and services
- contribute to the organization’s strategic direction by supporting long-term team and business planning; guiding operational initiatives, including change management; and leading the strategic development of future-focused health economics activities
- evaluate and contribute to organizational processes and policies, enabling efficient and effective decision-making
- maintain current knowledge and implement best practices in methodologies, quality standards, and audits related to health economics
- advance the science of health economics in alignment with national and international HTA organizations, ensuring deliverables meet program and partner objectives
- ensure rigorous and consistent methodologies are used for economic evaluations, in collaboration with the Scientific Evidence, Methodologies, and Resources team
- collaborate across the organization to develop relevant health economics products and explore innovative ways to present economic information for greater impact
- engage with external partners in the health system to ensure that health economics products and frameworks contribute positively to the broader health care landscape
- participate in national and international working groups to maintain expertise, raise the organization’s profile, and support capacity-building through training and collaboration
- oversee the development and maintenance of economic methods and guidelines, including submission guidelines, cost guidance, and evaluation frameworks
- provide leadership and mentorship to a multidisciplinary team through coaching, guidance, and effective resource management
- collaborate with People and Culture on staffing plans, hiring, job descriptions, and employee relations matters
- manage and monitor budgets to ensure alignment with departmental goals and objectives
- prepare briefing notes and information materials to support executive and CEO-level decision-making.

Is this the right role for you?
**The Director, Health Economics will likely have**:

- a master’s degree in economics or a health-related discipline, plus at least 8 to 10 years of health economics experience in the public or private health care sector
- in-depth understanding of microeconomic analysis, which includes prior experience in economic evaluations, budget impact analyses, and computer-based economic and statistical modelling
- strong leadership and people management skills to lead, mentor, and manage a multidisciplinary research team
- sound strategic-planning skills to contribute to the development of strategic and operational plans for an evolving program area
- strong planning, program, and project management skills to define and meet time frames for the successful implementation of organizational and program deliverables, including budget management
- sound reasoning skills and good judgment, along with ability and experience in managing and facilitating change
- ability to modify approaches and direction as needed to
