Manitoba’s Data Science Program is recruiting for an Applied Scientist (Data Scientist) who will join a supportive and high-performing team with an exciting mission to transform government.

The Data Science Program has big goals - we are building a team of enthusiastic people to turn data into good policy and governance.

Conditions of Employment:

Qualifications:
Essential:

- Completed Master’s or Doctoral Studies in a quantitative discipline (including but not limited to mathematics, physics, econometrics, computer science, statistics, etc.) with extensive quantitative preparation.
- Strong written communication skills.
- Superior verbal communication skills including ability to present complex technical information to executive audiences.
- Ability to work independently while using individual judgement in resolving issues as they arise.
- Strong attention to detail to provide clear, accurate information and professional products to stakeholders.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build and navigate stakeholder relationships.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to balance tight deadlines and conflicting priorities.

**Duties**:
On a day-to-day basis, the position will:

- Deliver complex quantitative analysis and modelling in collaboration with Senior Applied Scientists and other individual contributors. This will include:

- Machine learning models.
- Predictive and prescriptive models.
- Complex analysis on non-traditional datasets (e.g., networks, free-text, images, video).
- Contribute to our supportive culture of analytical excellence through participating in peer review and collaboration.
- Produce decision-grade insights that shape the direction of government policy.
- Be responsible for overall quality of their work - including accuracy, completeness, appropriateness, reproducibility and overall alignment with expectations for quality analytical practice.
