**Description**: HomeShare Providers are people in the community who are interested in sharing their lives and home with an adult with a disability. The

HomeShare Provider strives to create a safe, caring, and supportive home environment for an individual with a developmental disability or acquired brain injury. The HomeShare Provider facilitates opportunities for increasing independence and community involvement. The

HomeShare Provider establishes and maintains a warm and personal relationship with the individual and their family and friends. The

HomeShare Provider establishes and maintains relationships of trust, security and unconditional support and implements support plans

(where applicable) in behavior, coping skills, greater personal autonomy, and richer life options. The HomeShare Provider effectively carries out programs as needed, with the guidance of consulting professionals. The HomeShare Provider provides support 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The HomeShare Provider is a dedicated and compassionate person (or couple/family). HomeShare Providers participate in ensuring that the strategic goals of the agency are met.

**Reporting**

**Relationship**: The HomeShare Provider reports to the Community Program Manager of inclusion Powell River Society.

**Pay Rate**: Monthly payment, based on current Community Living BC (CLBC) rates. As a HomeShare Provider you are contracted by inclusion Powell

River and receive tax-free compensation.

**Details**: We are seeking a long-term Shared Living arrangement for a developmentally disabled 61-year-old male with significant cognitive disability who requires frequent or constant supervision with activities of daily living. He is living in his own home, whereby the caregiver

(HomeShare Provider) could enjoy the upstairs of the home, while providing some support. The individual is mobile and either home or out during the day, enjoying activities on his own. The HomeShare Provider ideally would have other full or part-time employment, outside of the home, but is home in the evenings to help with dinner and stay overnight.

The support needed by this individual is mainly for meals, creating and maintaining structure with verbal prompting (e.g., taking pills, going to bed), encouragement, monitoring for general safety in the home (e.g., turning off stove when done), and a supportive, friendly atmosphere.

This individual uses clear speech to communicate, with few words.

Instructions need to be broken down. He is independent with personal care but requires some prompting and reminders (e.g., to take a shower, to change clothes). He launders his clothes independently and can make some very simple foods (e.g., toast). This individual is a kind man who knows what he likes. He enjoys watching older television shows such as Bonanza and Gunsmoke.

The living arrangement would be:

- Upstairs: shared kitchen, dining room, living room, smaller office/bedroom, and bathroom. The HomeShare Provider would have their own bedroom (master bedroom)
- Downstairs: Bedroom and den/tv room (used exclusively by individual)
- The individual likes to keep to his own space/company, and likes to keep his space and items therein untouched by others
- What is the caregiver expected to pay (heat, hydro, cable, rent, groceries, etc....)?: This is negotiated with the family. There may be an expectation to pay for some shelter costs.
