The Association of Professors of the University of Ottawa (APUO) is a certified union representing full-time faculty members, professional librarians, language teachers and continuing special appointments professors employed at the University of Ottawa. As a union, the APUO’s principal functions are to negotiate the Collective Agreement and to ensure that the rights of its members under the Collective Agreement and the law are protected on a day-to-day basis.

**PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Provides specialized advice to APUO staff and members concerning the merits of grievances, complaints and inquiries.
- Coordinates and administrates grievances and complaints in the area of responsibility.
- Prepares APUO and its members to present grievances and complaints before quasi-judicial tribunals or forums.
- Assists Legal Counsel in preparing witnesses and conduct examination in chief and cross of witnesses.
- Coordinates and delivers training sessions to members on matters covered by the Collective Agreement.
- Meets with grievors and management representatives with a view to settling complaints and grievances to a grievor’s satisfaction.
- Represent APUO and its members in a variety of special assignments, which may be delegated directly from the Administrative Director or the President.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Advanced communication skills in both French and English, spoken and written.
- An undergraduate degree in labour relations or a related area of study, or professional experience in a related field.
- Three years of related work experience with demonstrated advocacy skills and a history of representing members in the workplace.
- Knowledge of labour and related legislation and legislative changes, case law, collective agreement language, grievance/arbitration procedures and practices.

- Have a demonstrated commitment to the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) and to the core academic values of fairness and academic freedom and responsibility.

- Advanced knowledge of MS Office software programs.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and sound judgment.
- A high degree of personal initiative.
- The ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

**ADDITIONAL INFORMATION**
- Reports to the APUO Administrative Director.
- Status: 35hrs/week, permanent. Includes a six-month probation period.
- The salary range is $105,739 to $133,486 per year with an excellent benefits package, including a defined benefit pension plan.
- Partial telework.
- Start Date: July 1, 2025.
