**Position**
Reporting to the Institute of Prairie and Indigenous Archaeology (IPIA) Director and working alongside the IPIA Administrative Support, the Lead Research Assistant / Equipment Manager is primarily responsible for research tasks related to trust-funded research and service agreements held with the IPIA, providing coverage during the IPIA Program Coordinator’s period of leave.
This position is responsible for providing project-specific administrative and research support to community-led projects through the IPIA. This role may also act as supervisory oversight for aspects of study design, data collection, data analysis and management, and reporting. In addition, this role is also tasked with laboratory and equipment management, including safety, training, maintenance, and repair.
**Duties**
- Responsible for IPIA designated lab space and equipment management, including safety, maintenance, and training.
- Participates in and oversees community-led archaeological research projects for the IPIA including research design, data collection, data processing, results, and final reports.
- Works with community partner representatives to identify and document project requirements. Collaborates with communities on the development of projects, project scoping, and planning. Participates in regular meetings with community partners. Maintains positive community relations.
- Prepare reports (progress, research, scientific, or final reports) for trust-funded research programs and service agreements as requested for distribution to stakeholders, granting agencies, external funders, or the public.
**Minimum Qualifications**
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology/Anthropology or Indigenous studies.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in research and equipment management.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills for report writing, correspondence, and presentations.
- Strong analytical and research skills including the ability to synthesize and summarize information in a logical manner.
- Familiarity with archaeological and geophysical research equipment including; Ground-Penetrating Radar, drone imagery and LiDAR, Total Stations, RTK-GNSS units, and Magnetometry.
- First Aid Level C Certification required.
- UTV Operators Certification required.
- Willing to travel within Alberta, evening and weekend work occasionally required.
**Preferred Qualifications**
- Experience working with Indigenous communities.
- Drone Pilot’s Certification - Basic or Advanced operations.
- Ability to work on own initiative and with mínimal supervision and direction.
