**Location** - This role is in-person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus, Edmonton.

**Working for the Department of Medicine**

The Department of Medicine is the largest department in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta with over 250 academic faculty members and over 400 trainees (graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and residents).The Department of Medicine's core mission is to undertake outstanding education, research and high-quality clinical care to provide the best possible health outcomes for Albertans. **Working as a Research Assistant**

The Department of Medicine is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Research Assistant to join our team. This position encompasses both clinical and laboratory responsibilities, supporting research projects focused on the LILRB1 and Break CMV studies, as well as microbiome studies. The role is essential in bridging clinical participant engagement and laboratory sample processing.

**Duties**:

- Clinical Component:_
- Obtain informed consent from potential participants and ensure follow-up.
- Organize participant schedules and maintain accurate data in clinical databases.
- Laboratory Component:_
- Collect and process samples (e.g., amniotic fluid, urine) from the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH).
- Prepare samples for advanced analysis, including:

- Confocal microscopy
- Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM)
- Tissue immunostaining
- Handle sample storage, processing, and DNA extraction with precision and care.

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor’s degree in Science (BSc).
- Proficiency in sample processing, immunostaining, SEM/TEM sample preparation, and DNA extraction methods.
- Experience in participant recruitment, data management, and follow-up coordination is preferred.
- Proven ability to work independently, especially in tasks related to informed consent, remote sample collection, and laboratory techniques.
