POSITION TITLE: Kitchen Assistant (Full-Time)

LOCATION: Village Grocer (Markham, Ontario)

TITLE OF IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Executive Chef, Kitchen / Prepared Foods

Scope

The Kitchen Assistant works in the Village Grocer’s Kitchen & Prepared Foods Department and is responsible for duties such as dishwashing, trash disposal, basic food preperation (chopping, cutting, etc.), inventory receiving & storage,

Role Requirements
- Desire to learn and grow in a culinary enviorment
- Fluent in speaking and reading English
- Available to work day-time hours.
- Can work extended hours on occasion
- Can work one weekend day in addition to four weekdays each week)
- Maintains a high standard of personal hygiene & appearance
- Adheres to company dress code (uniform, hat/hairnet)
- Maintains a clean and safe work-space environment
- Endure medium to high levels of physical exertion (standing, bending, lifting, etc.)
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail
- Observes company code of conduct, policies and store rules
- Food safety and handling knowledge

Key Responsibilities
- Wash dishes, glassware, flatware, pots, or pans, using dishwasher or by hand
- Maintain kitchen work areas, equipment, or utensils in clean and orderly condition
- Clean food preparation areas, facilities, or equipment
- Place clean dishes, utensils, or cooking equipment in cooking and storage areas
- Store supplies or goods in kitchens or storage areas
- Stock supplies, such as food or utensils, in serving stations, cupboards, refrigerators, etc.
- Stock serving stations or cafe area with supplies
- Sort and remove the trash, placing it in designated recycling & pickup areas
- Clean garbage receptacles with water or steam
- Load or unload trucks that deliver products and supplies
- Move equipment, supplies, etc. to required locations

Working Conditions
- Inside, loud, hot, slippery floors, fast-paced in tight quarters
- May sustain minor cuts, burns and bruises on occasion while on the job
