Youth Services Worker

Are you a student who is a self-starter, with a passion for working with a growing non-profit organization that supports Indigenous peoples experiencing homelessness? The Aboriginal Coalition to End Homelessness Society (ACEHS) is seeking a Youth Services worker to work closely with the Youth Programming, the Outreach team, and other projects that will be focused on building relationships with Indigenous youth who are unhoused, at risk of losing housing, recently housed and/or aging out of Ministry care.
**Job Details**:
**Position Type**: Full-time / co-op, 35-40 hours per week.
**Term**:8 weeks. Starting ASAP
**Salary / Wage**:$16.75 per hour
**Deliverables**:
- Support knowledge gathering surveys with Indigenous youth as part of the WAGE-SOEN project.
- Support the Youth Programs Coordinator in organizing land-based events that are social and cultural
- Support relevant program evaluations and report writing.
- Focus on outreach and advocacy with Indigenous youth who are unhoused; support the pathway to housing and cultural supports.
- Support with providing weekly nutrition boxes to unhoused Indigenous youth.
- Work with the Indigenous Outreach and Justice Advocate to support with systems navigations.
- Update Tracking Forms.
- Attend the ACEHS youth team in community networking events.
- Other duties as required.
**Required Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities**:
- Strong relatability and rapport building skills.
- Progressive understanding of persistent mental illness, addictions, and other challenges that impact health, wellbeing, and quality of life.
- Understanding of harm reduction; understanding of decolonized harm reduction.
- Demonstrated knowledge about Indigenous and decolonizing research methodologies, theories, and practices.
- Demonstrated knowledge about the intersectionality's of Indigeneity, gender and sexual orientation as it relates to housing security.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Ability to multitask and push multiple projects to completion simultaneously
- Ability to efficiently operate office equipment such as laptops, printers, scanners, and copiers
- Understanding of the intergenerational trauma that occurs because of colonization, Residential Schools, Sixties Scoop, and other oppressive systems as well as the history of Indigenous peoples in Canada.
- Ability to work in a holistic, professional, and non-judgmental manner as you are working with a broad range of personalities, needs, cultures, lived experiences and abilities.
- Working toward an undergraduate degree in social work, child and family services, or Indigenous studies
