**Scope**:
This position is under the direct supervision of the Mental Health and Addictions Program Manager, and overall supervision of the Executive Director. The Adult and Family Counsellor is responsible for developing therapeutic approaches that will address issues of mental, emotional, sexual and physical abuse in providing individual and group counselling sessions. They will be responsible for ensuring services and programs are responsive to the needs of Indigenous adults and families including the legacy of colonialism and residential school abuse and its intergenerational traumatic impacts.

**Responsibilities**:

- Provide direct services to a minimum of 50 adults and families who are dealing with mental health and/or addiction issues.
- Design and facilitation of programs to address the needs of adults and families.
- Provide therapeutic approaches to delivery of the programs.
- Work with staff members within the organization that requires support and services.
- Act as a consultant to staff members that are responsible for cases involving sexual and physical abuse and the resulting mental health, emotional and behavioural issues.
- To participate in internal and external Outreach meetings and debriefs.
- Establish and maintain working relationships within the Indigenous community in the Simcoe region.
- Maintain client records and other statistical data.
- Promote a healthy lifestyle by example, information sharing, liaison activities, attending special educational standards of practice and to exercise client confidentiality and protection of privacy.
- Ensure adequate care for all materials provided for the program.
- Adhere to legislative requirements for duty to report, serious occurrence reporting and inform program manager where occurrences have been reported and/or need to be reported.

**Qualifications**:

- A Bachelor’s degree in social work in a related field or equivalent in experience.
- A minimum 3-year related counselling experience working with adults, family and Indigenous people.
- An in-depth understanding of issues facing Indigenous people, understanding of culture, values and historical trauma.
- Ability to conduct counsellor/client interviews, assessment, planning and treatment referrals, group facilitation and group therapy.
- Be a role model within the community.
- Have or willing to obtain CPR/First Aid, NVCI or other required trainings.
- Must be willing to obtain a clear Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

**Salary & Benefits**:

- Salary: $60,000 - $65,000 per year
