**Lead Estimator - Heavy Civil Construction Location**: Calgary, Alberta. As the Lead Estimator, you will oversee and guide estimating efforts for civil construction projects including utilities, earthworks, and infrastructure.
You'll work closely with business development and operations teams to ensure estimates are accurate, profitable, and aligned with strategic growth goals. Beyond pricing, you'll mentor junior estimators, strengthen client relationships, and play a pivotal role in winning work. Key Responsibilities Develop detailed task
- and productivity-based estimates using industry-standard software (e.g., Bid2Win/HeavyBid). Perform quantity take-offs from engineering drawings using tools like Bluebeam.
Source, analyze, and compare supplier and subcontractor quotes. Conduct risk analysis to ensure compliance with contract requirements, codes, and industry standards. Partner with operations to confirm production rates, equipment needs, and project feasibility. Lead project hand-off meetings and support change order management and cost tracking post-award.
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior estimators to strengthen team capability. Requirements Must-Have Qualifications 5-10 years of estimating experience in civil, deep utilities, or earthworks construction. Proficiency in estimating software (Bid2Win/HeavyBid) and tools like Bluebeam.
Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings. In-depth knowledge of construction contracts, codes, and standards (Canadian experience preferred). Advanced skills in cost modeling, risk analysis, and project management. Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Located in (or willing to relocate to) the Calgary region; able to work on MST schedule. Nice-to-Have Qualifications 10+ years of estimating experience in water/sewer, roadbuilding, or earthworks. Experience leading an estimating team or department. Knowledge of local subcontractors, suppliers, and market pricing.
Ability to create custom cost codes within Bid2Win. Professional designations such as CET, PMP, or Quantity Surveyor. Compensation & Benefits Competitive base salary commensurate with experience. Performance-based bonus opportunities.
