**Summary**:
The Brain Injury Association Peterborough Region serves the four counties of Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes, Haliburton, and Northumberland and is a unique supportive organization structured as an Association including individuals with the lived experiences of acquired brain injuries, their care partners, and both paid and unpaid staff and a Board of Directors. This association holds the philosophy that each individual is unique and worthy of respect and opportunities to nurture and continually develop their strengths and pursue their aspirations.

ABI Day Service Facilitator is a position that has been developed with the intent to ensure that individuals with lived experience of both non-traumatic and traumatic acquired brain injuries are assisted to reach purposeful therapeutic goals and activities that they hold to be meaningful and life-enhancing.

The ABI Day Service Facilitator is responsible for the support of BIAPR clients living with the effects of acquired brain injuries through the provision of person-centred recreation and recreation therapy services. These services are structured within the scope of the ABI Day Service programming serving the four counties, providing a continuum of care that includes not only onsite services in Peterborough or City of Kawartha Lakes, but also online virtual programming (via video conferencing or telephony) and mobile adult day programming supports for clients in their home.

This role will also work with the BIAPR team to increase the overall quality of life for clients living with ABI and identified characteristics of Dementia under our additional Ontario Dementia Strategy annualized funding. This overall goal is driven by the five principles set out by the Dementia Strategy for Canada (2019): 1) Quality of Life, 2) Diversity, 3) Human Rights, 4) Evidence-informed, 5) Results-focused. This goal is also in line with the Senior Friendly Care (sfCare) Framework (2017) “to achieve the best possible health outcomes for older adults,” based on the foundation that the client is a partner in care, and that services are not being done to or for them, but rather with them. By utilizing recreation therapy assessments, and involving clients and their care partners, the individualized support strategies (care plans) for identified individuals will be created and implemented with purposefully designed programs.

**Job Duties**
- The ABI Day Service Facilitator carries out the duties of the ABI Day Service under the ABI Day Service Supervisor as a part of the ABI Day Service team within the Association. The ABI Day Service Facilitator also works under the direction of the Recreation Therapist to deliver detailed recreation therapy care plans assisting in the delivery of goal-oriented programs and services to meet the leisure related needs of clients. It is important that Facilitators work alongside the therapist(s) to facilitate and/or assist with the delivery and implementation of programs and supports along the continuum of care (onsite, virtual, and in-home).

The ABI Day Service Facilitator effectively:

- Develops and implements programs, as well as observes and reports on program and client progress, in addition to non-direct client activities.
- Provides input on recreation therapy program delivery, which will enable the Recreation Therapist to conduct assessments, develop intervention plans or evaluate a client’s progress in relation to the intervention plan in conjunction with the ABI Day Service Supervisor, and ABI Day Service Team Lead (CKL only), using a strength-based approach.
