The city of Calgary is also home to the Métis Nation. **About the Faculty of Continuing Education**: The Faculty of Continuing Education at Mount Royal University is responsible for the revenue generating program delivery of non credit programming. This includes adult continuing studies in business and professional education, community and health studies, academic upgrading and occupational programming. The Faculty also houses the Mount Royal Conservatory which provides trusted musical education for all ages. Rounding out the programming is the Transitional Vocational Program (TVP) and the Inclusive Post Secondary Education program which support adult learners with developmental disabilities. The Faculty of Continuing Education prides itself in offering accessible, relevant and meaningful programming to learners in pursuit of professional and personal development. Mount Royal University offers credit-free Academic Upgrading courses through the Faculty of Continuing Education and Extension to prepare students for post-secondary studies. Students may improve high school grades or take courses they may have missed to prepare for admission into Alberta’s colleges and universities. Academic Upgrading courses are not eligible for credit towards a high school diploma. **About the Role**: The Faculty of Continuing Education is seeking instructors with the ability to teach the following course(s): **XPFT-20401: Fitness Program Design** **Course Description** Students will learn how to use the skills and knowledge they have acquired in previous courses to develop individualized training programs. This will result in customized personal fitness training that is safe, effective, and meets the needs of the clients. **Days & Times Offered**: Tues/Thurs, January 7 - April 1, 5:00-6:55 PM Final Exam: April 10, 5:00-6:55 PM **Prerequisite** - XPFT 20001 - Human Anatomy **Course Materials and Textbook(s)** American College of Sports Medicine. Champaign, IL: Human Kinetics. **Course Learning Outcomes** Upon completion of this course, the student will: - Identify the 10 steps to program design - Use appropriate and useful screening tools - Examine the fundamentals of counselling skills - Identify clients with high risk conditions - Design a variety of programs for general and special populations Please see our website for further program and course details: mru.ca/pft **Responsibilities**: The course consists of 48 hours of classroom instruction using the approved curriculum, invigilation of the final exam, design and implementation of applicable curriculum assessment measures, and marking and submission of final course grades. The instructor must also maintain regular contact with the PFT Administration team and adhere to program policies and deadlines. **Instruction**: - Lesson preparation - Course delivery - Marking/grading - Course outline preparation - Facilitate course delivery using approved curriculum and learning materials - Review and revision of course assessments **Administration**: - Marking and submission of course grades - Maintain regular contact with the program administrative team - Participate in virtual instructor meetings and individual meetings with the program coordinator as required - Participate in meetings and adhere to program policies and deadlines **Qualifications**: - Master’s degree in Health Science, Kinesiology or related field required - Completed Ph.D. is an asset - 3-5 years of applicable professional experience - Working knowledge of copyright and APA citation - Excellent communication skills - Minimum two years of experience of instructional experience in an adult education environment - Strong organizational and time management skills - Self-motivated and self-directed - Proficiency with Google Workspace - Proficiency with the D2L learning management system is an asset **Closing Date**: October 24, 2024
