**Job Duties**:

- Apprehend and impound stray, injured, and deceased domestic animals.
- Apprehend, handle, and impound aggressive dogs.
- Respond to and investigate animal bylaw complaints such as loose pets, animal attacks, and nuisance dogs. This includes collecting evidence such as witness statements.
- Conduct proactive random patrols in a marked vehicle of neighborhoods to detect and deter animal-related bylaw issues.
- Conduct random patrols by vehicle and on foot of parks and green spaces to ensure compliance with animal-related bylaws through education and enforcement.
- Interview witnesses, take notes, and prepare reports.
- Prepare, complete, and serve required documentation including warnings, violation tickets, and orders.
- Coordinate with the prosecution and testify in court.
- Maintain a high level of decorum, professionalism, and emotional control while handling complex, hostile, and dynamic situations.
- Liaison with, and assist agencies such as police, emergency services, Alberta SPCA, AHS Public Health, Alberta Fish and Wildlife, and Community Peace Officers.

**Additional Duties**:

- Assist with basic animal care needs at the animal shelter.
- Assist with administrative tasks and other shelter operations including staffing the front desk and answering phones.
- On a casual as-needed basis, Enforcement Officers may be required to handle and relocate trapped urban wildlife including skunks, raccoons, and porcupines.
- Attend meetings and events for the purpose of community outreach and pet ownership education.
- Ability to use a point-of-sale system for dog license registration and handle a cash float; as well as navigate and diligently enter and maintain information into a records management system.

**Required Qualifications**:

- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent supplemented with post-secondary education in law enforcement or a combination of training and experience in a law enforcement/ public safety field.
- Ability to obtain and hold a Bylaw Enforcement Officer appointment.
- Must have a valid Alberta Class 5 Drivers License.
- Understanding and ability to apprehend and handle domestic animals including animals that may be injured and aggressive.
- Physically be able to conduct animal control-related activities including walking for patrols, and/ or running, as well as picking up and moving large animals up to 100lbs.
- Skilled in the ability to provide professional services using sound judgment and tact while dealing with the public.
- Ability to work both in a team environment and independently.
- Excellent oral and written communication with keen attention to detail.
- Ability to problem solve and adapt to high-pressure and changing situations and be capable of self starting tasks.
- Ability to create and work through Word, Excel, and other Office programs.

**Additional Assets**:

- Training and or experience in conflict resolution.
- Working knowledge of the Municipal Government Act, POPA, Criminal Code, and Bylaws.
- Experience or training in animal health and welfare.
- Willingness to participate in training and team-building activities.
- Volunteer experience or community involvement.
- Appropriate and healthy stress management practices.

Pay: $2,900.00-$4,500.00 per month
