Job Summary:
Strato Labs is expanding our downtown Toronto team and are recruiting for a keen and passionate Laboratory Technician with PCR experience. The PCR Lab Technician will perform high volume SARS-CoV-2 laboratory screening of nasal swabs for a private client. This will include operating a Hyris bCube PCR device, data entry, reporting results, waste disposal/maintenance duties, and other duties supporting the process. You will work out of our point-of-care laboratory at 157 Princess Street. The work will be part time (0-20hrs/week) with the possibility for increased hours if testing workload increases during surges. Excellent time management skills will be required to allow efficient processing of a relatively high volume of samples and other laboratory and project functions. You will need to be available afternoons and evenings primarily. Some work may be required on weekends and mornings. Flexibility is a must.

Main Responsibilities:

- Performing PCR analysis on SARS-CoV-2 swabs using standard kits and achieving high reproducibility. (You will be doing a lot of micro pipetting)
- Receiving samples and supplies
- Laboratory maintenance, cleaning, and stocking
- Performing internal quality control
- Ensure that all calibration, daily checks and maintenance are performed
- Communicating and coordinating with other staff members and management

Skills & Qualifications:
The Scientist will hold a postsecondary degree in Molecular Biology, Genetics, or other relevant field, or Diploma with relevant experience including practical laboratory work.
- PCR experience
- DNA/RNA extraction and manipulation experience
- Micro pipetting accuracy
- Demonstrated ability to perform tests with mínimal supervision and assess, plan, and maintain an organized workload while paying attention to detail
- Must be able to work well independently and also be able to work in collaboration with a project team and other company staff

Part-time hours: 0-20 per week with potential for increase during surges
