**Historical Interpreter Student Job Description**
Outline of duties

Under the direction of the Manager of Operations at Sainte-Marie among the Hurons, Student Historical Interpreters will:

- Learn and practice specific facets of historical interpretation in education and public tours
- Animate the site
- Provide interpretive and guided services by conducting education and public tours
- Provide exceptional customer service to all visitors
- Deliver historic interpretation services by providing hands on activities such as blacksmithing, carpentry, and candle making
- Assist in the daily curatorial/maintenance of the historic buildings, and furnishings
- Be willing to work weekends and occasional evenings
- Be willing to wear historic costume and adhere to the costume policy
- Perform other duties as assigned

Skills and knowledge required:

- Ability to learn quickly and readily recall information
- Ability to work with others responsibly and fairly
- Possess excellent oral communication skills
- Ability to address large groups
- Ability to work with various ages, from children to seniors
- Ability to perform all duties and tasks in period costume
- Ability to take direction
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable in the workplace
- Ability to be diplomatic with visitors and fellow staff
- Ability to carry out interpretive responsibilities with the support of ongoing training and experience
- Ability to adhere to workplace safety regulations, workplace protocol standards as set out by Huronia Historical Parks and/or the Ontario Public Service

**RENUMERATION**
The rate of pay for Summer Student Historical Interpreters is $18.05 per hour for college/university students and $17.20 per hour for high school students.
- **NOTE**:_All positions may involve irregular work hours during evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays._

This position requires meeting the stipulations outlined by the Ontario Public Service Summer Employment Opportunities program. To be eligible for employment under this program applicants must meet all eligibility criteria to be considered for summer employment:

- **Residency in Ontario**:You must be living in the province of Ontario during the term of employment.
- **Work status - eligibility to work in Canada**:You must be legally entitled to work in Canada. You are also required to have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN) upon being hired. If you do not have a valid SIN and would like to obtain one, review the Government of Canada website.

Contract length: 4 months

Pay: $17.20-$18.05 per hour
