WSP has an opportunity for a Junior Biologist to join our Ecology and Environmental Impact Assessment team, located in our Fort St. John, BC office. Reporting to the Ecology / EIA Interior and Yukon Team Lead, you will participate in multidisciplinary projects in a variety of sectors with a wide range of complexity.

A day in the life...
- Implementing project/study work plans with a focus on aquatic habitats and fish and fish habitat assessments;
- Supporting various environmental baseline surveys and/or assessments (water quality, habitat, and aquatic resources);
- Performing background research and analysis for Project Managers;
- Executing site-specific field data collection for the Ecology / EIA group across various regions of BC;
- Entering, verifying, and analyzing data to support senior biologists;
- Promoting health and safety in the workplace;
- Delivering high quality data on time and within budget, drawing upon technical and scientific knowledge, training, and experience;
- Working within a team environment and communicating effectively with all levels of staff; and
- Involvement in field studies and frequent travel away from your home location will be required.

What you'll bring to WSP...
- A desire to work in an equitable, diverse and inclusive workplace with a positive culture that celebrates innovation and learning;
- A diploma, undergraduate or graduate degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Ecological Restoration or other relevant natural resource management related field;
- 1-3 years of experience working as an applied biologist;
- Specialization in either aquatics or fisheries;
- Registered (or eligible) as a Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) or BIT (Biologist in Training) in B.C. with the College of Applied Biology within six months of employment;
- Strong commitment to health and safety;
- Demonstrated ability to write detailed technical reports and communicate effectively with clients and colleagues;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Experience with environmental assessment, effects monitoring programs, and/or special research studies in applied ecology;
- Experience in field assessments and data collection requirements for ecological sciences;
- Willingness to work in the field, occasionally in remote locations and outside standard office hours;
- Knowledge of federal and provincial legislation;
- Ability to work independently but also thrive in an atmosphere that requires cooperation and teamwork to provide quality, solution-oriented consulting services;
- Experience with project management;
- Electrofishing certification is an asset;
- Demonstrated field skills and ability to manage complex programs involving substantial ecological data; and
- A valid Class-5 or higher driver’s licence.

**Compensation**

Expected Salary (all locations): $53 900 - $91 700

WSP Canada is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it will pay for this position based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to the specific geographic location.
