Community Builders has two main divisions to serve our community’s needs.
We build custom homes, legal second suites and renovations of all types. We pride ourselves in creating affordable housing. We also love using our creativity and skill to build for our supporters and create more connections, employment opportunities and pathways for our people.
We offer a three month paid program for people with barriers to employment that is designed as a pre-employment training and focuses on giving its participants the tools they need to succeed. They are taught employment readiness skills, life skills and most importantly get real on the job construction training in a supportive and supervised environment.
Community Builders’ Construction Trainee Program is connecting the people who most need the work with the work that most needs to be done.
**Job Summary**
Community Builders is looking for a Construction Trainer for our highly successful Training Program that is looking to pass along their talent and skills to the next generation of skilled tradespeople.
The incumbent will be responsible for teaching the in-class portion of our Trainee Program, ensuring that Trainees are given all the “tools” they need to succeed both in the program, and in their future career. The Construction Trainer is also responsible for ensuring that our on the job Trainers are equipped with the knowledge and skills to teach their respective mentees, including professional and personal development coaching.
The ideal person would have extensive knowledge in:
- Residential construction
- Renovations
- Health & Safety
Areas of instruction to include:
- Basic overview of plumbing, electrical, & HVAC
- Demolition
- Framing
- Drywalling
- Painting
- Trim & Doors
- Roofing, Siding, Fascia
**Responsibilities**
- In Class skills training for Construction Trainee ProgramTeaching, assessing and mentoring Trainees in all aspects of construction
- Ensuring adherence to Health & Safety Policies by Trainees at all timesMaintaining a supportive and productive learning environment
- Program developmentAssist the Training Program Coordinator in improving and implementing curriculum to meet the needs of program participants
- Ensuring that course and program curriculum is current and relevant;Developing curriculum that uses appropriate strategies and tools to assess student learning;
- Upskilling existing and new TrainersHelping improve the skills of permanent staff that work with Trainees through coaching both formal and informal
- On-the-job training with construction staff to improve their teaching skillsAssisting with performance reviews to help staff reach their goals
- Networking with local trades and construction employers to help program participants with career development and job search
- Creating a positive learning environment that accommodates students’ diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning styles
- Utilizing principles of adult education to actively engage students in the learning process
- Working independently and demonstrating initiative
- Working effectively with Trainees, the program team, and a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
- Other duties as assigned
**Required Qualifications**
- Minimum 5 years experience working in Construction
- Experience teaching and mentoring youth or adults
- Trade designation an asset
- Post-secondary degree or diploma an asset
- Excellent communication (oral and written), time management, and organizational skills
- Maintain professionalism at all times
**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent
**Salary**: $58,240.00-$66,560.00 per year
