**Success in the Role**:
What are the performance outcomes over the first 3 months you start work?
- Complete the onboarding tasks and tools training for producing VMware documentation.
- Gain proficiency with the authoring tools and team processes. Learn Markdown, Pivotal Tracker and GitHub.
- Become familiar with the documentation set on the VMware site.
- Learn about the VMware Tanzu Application Services (TAS) product features and customer use cases.
- Work with other content strategists for guidance to begin developing a strategy for TAS documentation.

What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months on the job?
- Fine-tune your abilities to write, including attending daily standup meetings with your writing and engineering teams.
- Manage the project and lead the team of writers.
- Provide guidance and training to the less experienced members of the team.
- Work with a team of content strategists to develop and deliver documentation strategy.

At 12 months you will work independently to deliver new and updated content for your assigned product features, and you will have:

- Achieved proficiency with the authoring tools and processes.
- Developed a solid working relationship with your engineering and product management teams.
- Fine-tuned your ability to lead the team.
- Fine-tuned your ability to do content strategy.
- Contributed your ideas for improving the customer’s experience with your writing team.

**The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?**
- Create content for experienced technical users (developers) as well as administrators and operators who deploy and maintain a large distributed software system.
- Collaborate with software developers, product managers, writers, information architects, quality engineers, user interface designers, and technical support engineers to develop and review information.
- Use Markdown and Git to author high-quality information on schedule.
- Incorporate customer feedback and suggested improvements into core content.
- Work with both open source and proprietary content, bringing both sources together for differing product goals.
- Work with other content strategists to refine the documentation strategy.

**What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?**

The technical writers report to a Manager as part of the Information Experience (IX) organization. For this role, you will work with your team on daily activities and work assignments to create documentation for multiple products related to the Tanzu Application Services project.

The technical writers work independently and coordinate their work with one another, the team leader and with their development teams. The team leader works with the team to ensure that consistent organization and content guidelines are defined. After onboarding and coming up to speed with our team and processes, you will be expected to take the lead on several product documentation sets.

**Where is this role located?**
Remote in Canada: This role is fully remote, allowing you the flexibility to work from the location you feel most productive and comfortable. You will be expected to live within 0-4 time zones of the primary location.
