**Overview**:
The Top Man/Pipe Layer is responsible for preparing pipe by making necessary cuts for pipe to be laid for track drain in underground construction work for the EVLW LRT project.

**Responsibilities**:

- Promote, execute, and adhere to the company’s safety policies and Goal Zero program, and encourage all employees, sub-contractors, and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
- Work with the crew to load and unload the tools and materials required for the job.
- Cut pipe using a handheld gas cut off saw.
- Find grades by using shot measuring device.
- Check slopes for conformance to ground disturbance requirements using levels or lasers.
- Communicate grade requirements to equipment operators and assist in the measuring while the excavation takes places.
- Lay pipe in the trench according to job specifications.
- Grade and level trench bases using tamping machines and other hand tools.
- Connect pipe pieces and seal joints using lube.
- Perform maintenance on pipe and replace any pieces needing rehabilitation.
- Train others in pipe layer and provide mentorship to new crew members.
- Must ensure a solid understanding of and comply with the principles of the company’s Code of Ethics.
- Other Surveying related duties as required.

**Experience and Knowledge**:

- Minimum 1 year experience in municipal work with water and sewage.
- Knowledge of underground utilities processes.
- Mathematical aptitude.

**Working Conditions**:

- Overtime as required.
- Work is performed in an outdoor setting which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
- Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry 50 pounds on a regular basis.
- Use of person protection equipment (PPE) is required (including steel-toed boots, gloves, safety glasses, and a safety vest).
- Must comply with the company's drug and alcohol policy.
