Gender-based Violence Community Educator

**ALICE HOUSE**:
Alice House provides safe second stage housing, counselling, advocacy, education, and support services for women with or without children who are fleeing family/intimate partner violence.

The primary function of the Gender-Based Violence Community Educator position is to provide specialized advocacy support services to women within a variety of settings and functions including delivering violence prevention and recovery education to women, fem-identifying, and 2-spirit individuals, and supporting women to navigate court processes and other complex systems. The development of this work will support the mission and vision of Alice House.
**KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES**:
- Provide prevention and recovery programing to Alice House service users and community partners.
- Facilitates and grow Alice House’s innovative Alice on the Go (AOTG), gender-based violence educational programing.
- Advocacy, system navigation, and support for women in a variety of settings.
**EDUCATION & PREVENTION**:
- Work collaboratively with community and corporate partners to provide quality and responsive programing to the local community and beyond.
- Facilitates Alice on the Go (AOTG) programing to utilizing a participatory and trauma informed approach to learning.
- Refine and develop educational materials based on participant feedback, inclusive practices in the field.
- Work closely with the Director of Programs and ED to expand the program and online modules that can be used with external groups for local, regional, and national delivery.
**CLIENT SUPPORT & ADVOCACY**:
- Provides crisis support, intervention, and outreach services to clients as needed.
- Ensures barriers to program access are identified and addressed with support of the program director.
**QUALIFICATIONS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**:
**TECHNICAL/PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE**:
- Related university degree or diploma. Such as Social Work, Human Services or experience equivalency.
- Experience providing educational programing within the community and virtually considered an asset.
- Proficiency with Microsoft suite programs and online learning platforms is considered an asset.
- Able to flex hours when required.
- Effective communication skills to work within an interdisciplinary team and collaborate with community partners.

- Must be committed to and consistently demonstrate open, healthy communication.
- Demonstrates flexibility and has solid time management and organizational skills.
- Must be empathetic, compassionate, reliable and responsive.
- Must have the ability to work independently while also contributing to a team approach.
**CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**:
- A car is required for this position, along with a valid NS Driver’s License.
- Ability to work flexible hours.
- Certification in Standard First Aid and CPR, Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Suicide Intervention (ASIST), or a commitment to secure these requirements within three (3) months of being hired.
- A clear criminal records and vulnerable sectors check is required.
**ALICE HOUSE COMPENSATION PACKAGE**:
- Salary Range $50,500 - $52,000 annually. Based on a 35-hour work week
