**The Eviction Prevention Navigator/ Advocate** is a member of the Housing Supports team. The Eviction Prevention Navigator /Advocate works with community members that are currently housed and are at risk of eviction. The Eviction Prevention Navigator’s focus is to respond to the needs of individuals by listening to their stories and working with them to create a strategy to prevention eviction and maintain their housing.

**Knowledge and Experience**:

- Post-secondary education in social work or other field-related discipline. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Experience providing support to participants who have or are experiencing problematic substance use; trauma; homelessness; and gender-based violence
- Working knowledge or the ability to learn the Residential Tenancies Act and be able to interpret it in plain language for community
- Experience working in a community-based setting in the North End of Winnipeg and knowledge of inner-city resources
- Knowledge of the impacts that colonization, residential schools, the 60’s scoop, the child welfare system and the genocide of Indigenous peoples, their culture and language and sacred traditions
- Knowledge of the resources available in the community for participants experiencing poverty, homelessness, domestic violence, mental illness, problematic substance use and gender-based violence

**Skills and Abilities**:

- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to follow directions and make decisions within the parameters of the job
- Ability to work flexibly in a high stress environment, adapting to the needs of the participants
- Knowledge of the resources available in the community to participant experiencing poverty, homelessness, domestic violence, and/or problematic substance use
- Knowledge of the impacts that colonization, residential schools, the 60’s scoop, the child welfare system and the attempted genocide of Indigenous peoples, has had on their culture and language and sacred traditions.
- Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills
- Ability to deal with crisis situations in an appropriate manner
- Comfortable transporting participants from different locations within Winnipeg
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Detail orientated and organized in file management and data base entry

**Duties and Responsibilities**
- To provide case management to participants in the Housing Program.
- To plan and facilitate/co-facilitate workshops.
- Make recommendations to program manager regarding the need for financial assistance intervention to prevent eviction.
- To provide site visits to participants living in the community.
- To connect with landlords to prevent eviction
- Mediate conflict between community and landlords.
- To empower participants to advocate for themselves and to advocate on their behalf when necessary
- To act as a role model for participants modeling healthy relationships, boundaries, and communication.

**Additional Requirements**
- Valid Class 5 license is mandatory and access to a vehicle is preferred
- Driver’s Abstract and Proof of Insurance
- Satisfactory Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry Check

**Job Status** Full-Time until March 31, 2026 with the possibility of extension

**Hours** 37.5 hours/week

**Salary Range** $27.50-$31.50 per hour
