Accounting Assistant

Summary

Assist with general accounting including preparing journal entries, maintaining balance sheet schedules and ledgers, and account reconciliations. Assisting with monthly closings and account analysis and supporting the finance team in carrying out the responsibilities of the Finance department.

Job Duties
- Reconcile and maintain balance sheet accounts
- General ledger operations
- Prepare journal entries
- Assist with monthly closings and preparation of monthly financial statements
- Assist in budgets and forecasts
- Assist with inventory control (i.e. data entry)
- Perform clerical duties such as maintain filing and record systems
- Assist with fixed asset reporting
- Assist with implementing and maintaining internal financial controls and procedures
- Assist with preparation of statistical reports
- Other duties as assigned

**Requirements**:

- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (Commerce), or working towards completion.
- Basic knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Knowledge of financial reporting.
- Experience in gathering data, compiling the proper information, and preparing financial reports.
- Able to perform basic account reconciliations.
- Excellent teamwork and team building skills.
- Basic knowledge of accounting systems, budgets, and internal controls.
- Effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
- Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
- Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.

- Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with other departments, key business partners, and government agencies.
- Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills.
- High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office productivity suite *Must be at intermediate level in Excel (i.e. creating and using pivot tables, v-lookup, advanced data manipulation).
- Technical accounting skills.
- Previous experience of general accounting is considered an asset.

Working Conditions
- Good hearing required for extensive telephone use.
- Ability to attend and conduct presentations.
- Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
