The technician, Aircraft Performance is responsible for ensuring that Air Canada's operation complies with regulations and standards for engine-inoperative obstacle avoidance. The technician must use their skills and judgment to optimally balance aircraft performance, safety, and operational efficiency.
**Responsibilities**:
- Perform airport analyses by conducting surveillance on airports, runways, and obstacles and gathering/assessing the latest and most accurate information available on said airports, runways, and obstacles.
- Design engine-out departure procedures and missed approach procedures with the goal of maximizing both operational integrity and performance capabilities.
- Use CAD (computer-assisted design) and GIS (geographic information system) tools to analyze terrain and obstacle data.
- Use specialized performance software to simulate flight profiles and calculate takeoff and landing operational data.
- Ensure that airport and performance data and procedures are published for use by flight crews and dispatchers.
- Communicate with airport authorities to monitor current and future runway construction and expansion projects and assess their operational impact; work with them to alleviate their negative impact on Air Canada's operation.
- Evaluate the effect of changes that occur both inside and outside of normal information or charting cycles.
- Changes occurring outside cycles may result in the issuance of an operationally significant NOTAM, temporary obstacle information, runway construction, procedural constraint, or flight schedule modification.
- Participate in the Airport Authorization Process.
- Prepare weight and balance reports and statements as instructed by the Manager, Load Control Engineering.
- Test IT solutions for the calculation and dissemination of operational aircraft performance data and weight & balance data.
- Provide technical support to other departments in all matters involving aircraft performance.
- Prepare route analyses in support of the Commercial branch's network planning and scheduling activities: block times, cost evaluation and payload predictions based on Monte Carlo models.
- Participate in Aircraft Performance engineering projects, working with performance/operations engineers.
**Qualifications**
- Successful completion of a College or University degree in a relevant technical field.
- 3 years of experience in a flight operations technical role in an airline or equivalent.
- Knowledge of Instrument Flight Rules, design of engine-out flight path procedures, and flight planning are strong assets.
- An understanding of the airline business and operation is required to efficiently integrate technical and business aspects.
- Strong computer skills and demonstrated proficiency with MS Office programs.
- Able to work collaboratively, think systemically, and meet required deadlines.
- Must be highly organized, and capable of working with a minimum amount of supervision.
- Must possess strong problem-solving skills.
- Must be willing to provide occasional off-hour support.
