Job Description:
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Director, Employee Relations, the Manager, Employee Relations is responsible for providing leadership and direction to a team of Specialists with the overall responsibility to oversee and support the effective management and consistent and coordinated approach on health authority wide/or provincial operational labour relations issues related to complex and or high risk matters.

The Manager has a key role in building effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including Island Health Leaders, Health Employers Association of B.C. (HEABC) representatives and union partners. In addition works closely with other areas of Human Resources and organizational partners to ensure effective communication and integration and collaboration on complex issues and process improvement.

The Manager is responsible to identify and communicate service needs to the Director, developing and recommending budgets, monitoring expenditures, analysing and reporting on variances and recommending and implementing remedial action.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education, Training And Experience**:
A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Bachelors' degree in a related discipline such as Human Resources of Business Administration, plus seven (7) years' related experience including a leadership role within Human Resources, preferably in a health care setting. Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation is preferred.

**Skills And Abilities**:

- Demonstrated ability to approach issues with client and solution focused methods, finding creative and proactive ways to improve service.
- Demonstrated ability to build strong, positive relationships and effectively work with various stakeholders in a consultative/collaborative manner.
- Ability to perform effectively in a complex, changing environment and lead and support change.
- Strong leadership skills including the ability to develop individuals and teams.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated analytical, critical thinking and problem solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
- Conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
- Solid understanding of human resource practices, related legislation and applicable collective agreements.
- Valid BC Driver's License and use of a personal vehicle.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
