**JOB PURPOSE**

Reporting to the Logistics Manager, the **Customs Compliance Specialist** will be responsible for ensuring that customs documentation is generated, collected and sorted in a timely manner, export forms are filled out and submitted according to current international and domestic practices and regulations.

**KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Work effectively with various groups such as carriers, freight forwarders, trucking companies and international clients to ensure the smooth flow of material through the supply chain.
- Collaborate and communicate with other departments (Packaging, Shipping, Customer Service, Marketing and Finance), for effective and timely transmission of information related to trans-border/international shipments.
- Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures and process maps for customs and logistics operational processes.
- Compile and provide key performance indicators on customs compliance.
- Continuously measure and improve customs related processes across the business.
- Work closely with the customs broker to expedite the liquidation of customs entries, including the collection of PAPS/MDR’s from carriers.
- Audit customs paperwork to ensure all documents match our system of record.
- Update and maintain C-TPAT documentation, including document and version control management.
- Participate in C-TPAT internal and external audits.
- Identify C-TPAT non compliance issues, report potential exposures and define corrective actions
- Keep current on business and regulatory changes and coordinate timely communication to internal and external stakeholders (Tariff change, trade agreement changes, ext.)

**QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS**
- Minimum 3 years of relevant customs experience (Customs Brokerage, Freight Forwarder or similar environment)
- Diploma is Supply Chain or Logistics
- Certified Customs Specialist designation
- CIFFA designation an asset
- Strong knowledge of customs processes and procedures, and other related federal and provincial government department regulations
- Strong knowledge of C-TPAT requirements
- Good interpersonal and communication skills; highly proficient and accurate in written output
- Ability to perform duties efficiently, in a fast-paced environment, with minimum supervision
- Establish and maintain client relationships with a strong focus on customer satisfaction
- Problem solving and effective negotiating
- Responding to all inquiries from internal and external clients on all customs regulations
- Maintaining and developing knowledge of importing and/or exporting rules and regulations and laws
- Proficient in MS Office Suit (Office, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)
