**Master Mariner - Captain**

**Job Overview**

The Master is the Company's representative on board. His duty is to command the vessel in accordance with national and international rules and regulations and with Company's policies and procedures. The Master is in all respects responsible for conducting his duties, and to deal with authorities, customers, charterers, agents and suppliers, in the best interest of the company.

The Master will demonstrate a record of safe and efficient ship handling and ensure safe, efficient and reliable service to charterer clients. The Master will ensure that HSEQ policies and programs are communicated and understood by all employees. Applicants must have recent anchor handling, towing, standby and/or supply vessel operations experience.

**Qualifications/Requirements**
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years experience as a Chief Officer.
- Master Mariner Certificate of Competency
- DP Unlimited Certificate
- Proven track record in relevant offshore experience within the marine sector; recent offshore standby experience on AHTS vessel is required.
- Demonstrated Leadership Ability, communicating with charterers, safety leadership and employee/team development.
- MED in Basic Safety Training
- MED in Survival Craft Training
- MED in Advanced Firefighting
- MED for Senior Officers
- Ship Security Officer or Ship Personnel with designated security duties certificate.
- Must pass Physical (Marine Medical with no restrictions, Drug Screen and Background Check).
- Marine Advanced First Aid
- Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than fast rescue boats.
- Stability II
- H2S Alive

- Valid Canadian Passport
- Passenger Safety Management Certificate

**Responsibilities**
- To ensure that the vessel is seaworthy and ready for the sea before it leaves the port.
- To plan voyages and navigation.
- To ensure that charts, navigation manuals, etc. required are available on board the vessel and that they are up to date.
- To ensure that amount of bunkers, water and food are sufficient for an intended voyage.
- To ensure that vessel certificates are kept up to date.
- To ensure that vessel certificates are kept in a safe place and that they are accessible for inspection by various authorities.
- To ensure that all personnel have the qualifications required by STCW, Customers and the Company, and the prescribed manning level for the vessel is compliant.
- To ensure that documentation concerning crew qualification is kept in a safe place and that such documentation can easily be retrieved for inspection by various authorities.
- To ensure that loading and unloading of the cargo as well as its treatment during the voyage are performed in accordance with applicable rules, instructions and contracts.
- Recognize a noncompliance with a specific requirement and analyze the reason for the noncompliance. Ensure personnel are aware of the reason for the noncompliance and how same is dealt with initially and permanently eliminated for the future.
- To ensure that all correspondence exchanged between the Company and the vessel is filed in a safe and effective manner.
- The Master is ultimately responsible for the safe operation of the vessel and for preventing pollution from the vessel.
- The Master is empowered in all situations with overriding authority to act decisively and according to his best judgment.
- The Master may request assistance from an appropriate person in the Company at any time in order to fulfill these responsibilities.
- The Master's responsibility and authority as it pertains to vessel navigation, management, safety and pollution prevention is detailed in the GSMS System.
- The Master shall ensure that publications and documents relating to the GSMS System in the deck department are current and filed. For GSMS System publications and documents of other departments he shall ensure their distribution to that head of department.
- Ensure that Flag State and/or the Classification Society are informed, when and where required, of any incidents or accidents.
- Keep appropriate departments ashore and on board sufficiently informed for co-ordination and control of activities for maximum safety, quality and environmental protection.
- In conjunction with the shipboard management team manage, delegate and control work activities with due regard, but not limited to the established distribution of responsibilities on board.
- Keep the Chief Officer informed of all matters concerning vessel's operation, enabling him as deputy to take command if this should be deemed necessary.
- Prepare his standing and daily orders according to guidelines for navigators.
- Give information of the relevant contents of the following to the shipboard management team:

- Company's GSMS System,
- Flag State legislation, codes and guidance,
- Port state legislation and guidance,
