**Responsibilities**
**PRIMARY PURPOSE**
Responsible for providing leadership and oversight in ensuring a culture of safety for all BCRTC employees. Ensures BCRTC remains in compliance with all related safety and environment policies and regulatory requirements. Collaborates with the Director to develop appropriate and comprehensive strategies and plans focused on occupational health, safety, and environmental compliance. Manages safety and environmental initiatives, projects and campaigns. Acts as a key liaison in the company’s interactions with WorkSafeBC, municipalities, and Environment Canada. Engages effectively with the Executive / Senior Leadership Team (ESLT) and the Board of Directors as required.

**KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES**
Provides leadership and oversight in ensuring an overall culture of safety and environmental stewardship across BCRTC. Collaborates with the Director and other BCRTC stakeholders to develop and implement appropriate and comprehensive safety strategies and plans. Provides training as needed to BCRTC leaders and staff on safety practices.

Provides leadership and oversight in meeting provincial regulations and BCRTC goals with respect to environmental sustainability. Collaborates with the Director and other BCRTC stakeholders to advance sustainability initiatives.

Develops, implements, and manages safety programs, projects, data-driven campaigns, and initiatives that promote safe work practices across BCRTC in order to mitigate risks and eliminate or minimize harm. Implements appropriate standards, practices, policies, and processes across BCRTC for accident prevention and safety, including necessary controls to identify and mitigate risks, report critical issues, and recommend actions to the Director.

Ensures overall BCRTC compliance to WorkSafeBC (WSBC) regulations, municipal requirements, and Environment Canada. Acts as a key liaison between BCRTC and regulatory/enforcement bodies relating to safety and environmental compliance issues.

Develops and manages OHS and environmental compliance and prevention programs and data-driven initiatives that are compliant with applicable regulations to promote environmental stewardship, physical safety, and mental health for BCRTC employees.

Aligns BCRTC’s integrated safety and environmental management systems to the ISO 45001 and ISO14001 standards and other industry best practice standards to support continuous improvement.

Oversees or supports the response to and investigations of accidents and safety and environmental incidents occurring in BCRTC workplaces, and ensures investigations are performed consistently, accurately, and within established timeframes. Liaises as necessary with external regulatory bodies related to investigations to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements. Interprets findings and implements corrective action plans to prevent future accidents or incidents. Prepares and presents comprehensive executive-level reports on investigations, findings, and actions.

Collaborates closely with the data analytics team to determine the type of data that needs to be collected and analyzed, set proper KPIs and targets, prepare and present senior level reports, and ensure the quality of data collection and analytics is properly maintained.

Maintains, communicates, and reports on BCRTC’s safety and environmental compliance plan, safety risk register, and environmental impact assessments. Acts as the overall custodian of the system managing data and information relating to health, safety, and environmental concerns and incidents to support the management of safety concerns, corrective
