As one of Toronto Zoo work areas that has been selected to hire a position under this new initiative, our Partnerships & Events team, is seeking an experienced Partnerships and Events Associate.

**Rate of Pay**:Start Rate: $26.61/hr 3 Month Rate: $28.38/hr 6 Month Rate: $29.56/hr

**Basic Function**: Reporting to the Supervisor, Partnerships & Events, this position is responsible for providing clerical and on-site support in the Partnerships & Events Branch, including events and revenue generating programs, outreach, cultural & community relations. This position is also responsible for assisting and providing support in implementing the Zoo’s Strategic Plan.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Provide event management, execution, logistics and wrap-up for revenue-generating and value-add on-site events, including public programming and/or corporate/private functions.
- Co-ordinate and/or support the development and execution of new signature events.
- Co-ordinates and/or supports the event management, execution, and logistics of the Zoo’s revenue generating Group Events programs for both corporate and private clients which includes, but is not limited to picnics, Zoo days, meeting, team building, receptions, holiday parties, after-hour events, VIP events, birthday parties, family gatherings and weddings.
- Develop work back schedules and key milestones for all events and projects.
- Supports and/or co-ordinates community outreach and cultural programs.
- Assist with the mascot outreach programs and when required, wears the mascot costume, or escorts the mascot for various functions on/off site.
- Supports sponsor and partner benefit fulfillment.
- Identifies sponsorship/partnership opportunities and develops proposals to seek sponsors.
- Negotiates with vendors on best possible pricing, terms, and values.
- Co-ordinate and/or support the hotel/partner ticketing and consignment discount program.
- Co-ordinate and/or support parking lot and space rental requests as required.
- Maintain an understanding of all new and ongoing programs to speak knowledgeably and enthusiastically about the work of the Toronto Zoo and Wildlife Conservancy to partners/sponsors and the community.
- Work collaboratively with other Toronto Zoo teams to build strong relationships and to ensure a successful outcome of events.
- Ensure that excellent customer service is provided to all Zoo guests, including crowd control as required.
- Work in collaboration with various stake-holders to develop and manage event budgets which includes providing budgetary recommendations and identifying cost saving opportunities.
- Work with vendors and partners to develop contracts based on the Toronto Zoo and City of Toronto guidelines.
- Maintain Partnerships & Events records, files and correspondence and maintains databases.
- Respond to telephone, website, and general inquiries from the public and other organizations.
- Develop and distribute external and internal communications including memos, event itineraries, staff reports and activity/budget reporting.
- Give guidance to non-permanent staff assigned to the Branch.
- Ensure that the Supervisor is aware of all work assignments and projects taking place within the Branch and keep him/her informed of any problems that may occur, as well as the status of the assignments/projects.
- Works in a safe manner, in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS legislation, and Toronto Zoo safety policies.
- Reports to their Supervisor the absence of, or defect in, any equipment or protective device that they are aware of, and which may endanger themselves or another worker.
- Reports to management any contravention of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Ensures that all incidents hazards are reported to management immediately.
- Follows all Branch Instructions.
- Attends appropriate training courses as directed.
- Other related duties as requested by management.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Must possess a certificate or diploma in Public Relations and/or Event Management, at the community college level, or the equivalent amount of experience and training.
- Must possess two (2) years previous experience in the same or similar position.
- Sponsorship fulfillment experience would be an asset.
- Must have proven, exceptional interpersonal skills and strong organizational skills.
- Must have demonstrated superb written and verbal communication skills using the English language.
- Must possess an unrestricted Class G Driver's Licence valid in the Province of Ontario, with four or less demerit points.
- Must have working knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) legislation, the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Toronto Zoo safety policies.
