**About the team**
The Saskatchewan Teachers’ Retirement Plan staff administer the pension plan that covers Saskatchewan teachers, ensuring they have a lifetime pension on retirement. The STRP staff use their professional skills to provide accurate calculations and support to teachers planning and during their retirement.

**What you’ll do**
The Director, Pension is responsible for the strategic leadership and oversight of the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Retirement Plan and the STF Employees’ Pension Plan (plans). This position provides support to the Pension and Benefit Board of Directors and STF Employees’ Pension Plan Committee (boards) with strategic planning, funding and benefits, risk management, governance, and policy development as it relates to the plans. This position also provides support to STF leadership and the STF Provincial Executive as needed.

**Responsibilities**:

- Develop and implement a strategic plan to guide plan design, funding, and administration of the plans.
- Develop short
- and long-range action plans, goals, and projects to align with the vision and strategic plan.
- Develop strategies for succession planning and employee development.
- Mentor and coach employees on an on-going basis to build a successful team that is engaged, efficient and productive.
- Provide support to the boards in fulfilling their governance role and provide leadership to ensure the fulfillment of the boards’ established vision, mission and guidelines.
- Work with the boards to develop and review board policies, guidelines and priorities.
- Support the boards during the induction of new members and recommend relevant professional development opportunities to ensure the boards have the skills and knowledge required to fulfill their governance responsibilities.
- Prepare and/or coordinate the preparation of materials for consideration by the boards, the STF Executive and/or Council.
- Oversee the effective and prudent governance of the plans by keeping abreast of best practices in governance of pension plans, legislated governance requirements, overseeing policy development, and monitoring compliance with existing policies.
- Oversee the development of changes and improvements to the plans; identify issues and recommend changes to plan texts; monitor and update plan texts and governing policies.
- Oversee financial, risk, and compliance management by ensuring operations are compliant with legislation and policy.
- Manage the various risks to the plans by identifying issues and providing recommendations, based on sound judgment and industry best practices, for consideration by the boards and other senior staff.
- Oversee and approve all written communication to members.
- Work with and maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders.
- Oversee the work and recommendations of external service providers to the plans and monitor their performance to ensure that standards and contractual obligations are fulfilled.
- Determine financial, staff and other resource requirements to meet proposed and/or approved changes to the plans.
- Oversee special projects, including the currently ongoing, multi-year pension modernization project.
- Establish concept base for information systems and authorize development, implementation and upgrades.
- Develop annual operating plans and prepare internal budgets, forecasts and annual objectives for consideration by senior management.
- Analyze expenditures against budget and/or claim projections and take necessary corrective action.
- Monitor cost-effectiveness, market-competitiveness and consistency within the established purpose and bylaws of the plans.
