**Controller Responsibilities**:
**Financial Management and Reporting**:

- Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement) in compliance with Canadian accounting standards (e.g., ASPE).
- Manage the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes to ensure financial data is reconciled and reported.
- Develop and maintain financial reporting systems and procedures that provide valuable insights for management and stakeholders.
- Prepare and present financial analysis and key performance metrics (KPIs) to the executive team to inform strategic decision-making.

**Compliance and Internal Controls**:

- Ensure compliance with financial regulations, including tax laws, accounting standards, and industry-specific regulations.
- Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard the company’s assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Coordinate with external auditors for the annual review process and manage the timely submission of financial filings.

**Budgeting and Forecasting**:

- Lead the annual budget process, collaborating with department heads to align financial plans with business goals.
- Manage financial forecasting and modeling to predict future performance and assess risks and opportunities.
- Provide strategic guidance on cost management, profitability optimization, and effective resource allocation.

**Cash Flow and Financial Planning**:

- Oversee the management of cash flow to ensure liquidity for operations and growth.
- Monitor working capital, accounts payable, and accounts receivable to optimize financial stability.
- Lead capital management strategy to ensure access to funds for growth, investment, and operational needs.

**Team Leadership and Development**:

- Supervise and mentor the accounting team, fostering collaboration and efficiency.
- Provide training and development opportunities to ensure the team has the necessary skills and resources.
- Promote adherence to company policies and financial procedures, ensuring high standards of financial reporting.

**Systems and Process Improvement**:

- Evaluate and implement improvements to accounting software and financial systems for enhanced accuracy and efficiency.
- Collaborate with senior management to enhance financial systems and reporting tools for scalability.
- Develop and implement best practices for financial processes, minimizing errors in financial reporting.

**Controller Requirements**:

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) designation strongly preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in accounting or finance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Experience working in a similar role within the transportation, distribution, supply chain or logistics industry.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian financial regulations, accounting principles (ASPE), and taxation laws.
- Proven experience in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.
- Advanced proficiency with accounting software (e.g., CargoWise) and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to present complex financial data to senior leadership.
- Exceptional communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams and present financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

**Preferred Skills**:

- Experience working with CargoWise software.
- Familiarity with financial analysis tools for strategic decision-making.
- Leadership experience in developing and managing finance and accounting teams.
