Job Summary** Interprets written or spoken material into one or more other languages, ensures meaning and context are maintained, creates glossaries or term dictionaries, possesses knowledge of multiple languages, works with individual clients and the corporation on enterprise and area communication. Reporting to WM’s Area Communications Manager, the French Translator will translate and edit internal correspondences, new product descriptions, training materials, job descriptions, policies and procedures, and various documents from multiple departments from English to French. In addition, the role will entail translating external written materials, social media content, B2B marketing materials and campaigns (print/digital), website content, and corporate messages. **II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities** To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned. - Reads through or listens to material in one language, ascertains understanding of the meaning and context of that material, and converts it into a second language, making sure to preserve the original meaning. - Translates online, video, and television media by providing subtitles. - Refers to online translation tools for additional assistance with translation. - Follows up with clients to ensure satisfaction and understanding. - Translates a variety of documents, including literary, legal, research, technical, educational, and commercial materials. - Sensitivity to the culture of the original language and the target language during the translation process. - Translate, from English to French in many different types of file formats, including.xml and.html. - Develop and create high-quality, message-driven documents. - Make revision changes requested by coworkers and management. - Actively participate in meetings and work on team projects. - Offer terminology, grammar, and spelling advice to internal clients as needed. - Obtain required information from internal clients (context, objectives, deadlines). - Coordinate and align with external translation agencies for additional requests, as required. - Review and proofread external translations for accuracy and consistency of our brand according to strict standards and quality control. - Assist in writing, implementing, and updating tone, approach, and stylistic guidelines for our French corporate channels to align with our brand. - Maintain a rigorous schedule to meet deadlines, capacity, and quality targets. - Add to the communication department’s terminology bank. - Revise and proofread different types of files with and without software and tools; frequent post-editing work involved. - Work on other tasks related to the position as requested by the manager. **III. Supervisory Responsibilities** This position has no supervisory responsibilities. **IV. Qualifications** The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job. A. Education and Experience - Education: Bachelor’s Degree or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or Equivalent and four (4) years of relevant experience. - Experience: Minimum of (1) one year of previous experience (in addition to education requirements). B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, or Other Requirements - Previous translation experience. C. Other Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities Required - Excellent knowledge of the French language (oral and written) is required. - Strong technical abilities: extensive experience using translation software, proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe (PDF), and Google Docs skills are required. - Strong attention to detail, discretion, judgment, and project ownership. - Ability to adapt to changing priorities while meeting deadlines in a busy environment. - Tactful and persuasive communication skills.
