Overview:
The Yard & Shipping Supervisor's prime objectives are to ensure the safe uninterrupted supply of quality cement to the customer through management of truck and rail loading, material handling, as well as on site yard crew activities. The Shipping & Yard department has 9 hourly employees and a variety of mobile equipment and provides critical support to plant operations through organization of the labor force for cleaning and assistance for Maintenance and Production, and Quarry.

**Responsibilities**:
**Safety Leadership**
- Being a safety leader, proactively act in eliminating/controlling risk, and lead and inspire the crew by example.
- Ensure communication of safety requirements as it relates to other plant departments.
- Reporting of safety incidents in a timely manner.
- Effective facilitation of safety meetings as per the established guideline.
- Responding to, and as appropriate, follow up on safety concerns brought forward from the group.
- Conducting safety inspections of the work areas, as per established guidelines.
- Ensuring that Risk Assessments and required work permits are being completed prior to commencing any tasks that require them, i.e. safe work, confined space, WAH, hot work, etc.
- Ensuring that employees and contractors have the proper and current training for the job they are to perform
- Following Lafarge’s guidelines for Contractor Safety Management.

**Operational**
- Effectively supervise 9 hourly employees (Yard, Plant Loader, Material Handling, and Bulk Loading)
- Organizes and supervises (LCC) Contractors as required.
- Schedule, plan, direct and assign work to the yard group.
- Management of bulk loading, cement inventories, and inbound/outbound shipping
- Improve and maintain housekeeping within Plant premises in order to achieve a clean, safe and environmentally compliant plant.
- Liaise with other areas within the Plant toward successful scheduling and execution of assigned work.
- Employ continuous improvement practices aimed at making the Plant a safer, cleaner, more efficient work place.
- Support plant Key Performance Indicators
- Completes associated administration work, ie, SAP, timecards, requisitions, receiving.
- Train and onboard students, temporary employees, and new employees.
- Keeps employees up to date on training and provides specific training to employees.
- Developing, implementing and reviewing, on a periodic basis, all SOP’s related to the department
- Protecting the plant’s equipment and maximize its utilization and reliability.
- May be required to relieve other Supervisory positions in Production or the Quarry.

**Relationships with Others Jobs**:

- The role reports directly to the Production Manager. The Shipping & Yard Supervisor works closely with all department managers and supervisors.

Qualifications:
**_
Education & Work Experience_**
- Two (2) years post-secondary education or equivalent industrial and supervisory experience

**_ Knowledge and skill_**
- Knowledge of problem solving techniques
- Strong computer skills.
- Strong communicator (both oral & written).
- Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to interact with plant personnel.
- Highly motivated with ability to work with mínimal supervision.
- Demonstrated commitment to achieving organizational and personal goals.
- Proven ability to work well in a team environment (co-workers, suppliers, etc.)
- Well organized and systematic.
