Position Purpose and Summary
- The Institutional Research/Data Analyst is responsible for validating, collecting, and analyzing data from a variety of sources. This position will respond to internal and external requests for data, working closely with the President’s Office, The Provost’s Office, and various academic and administrative departments. The position will promote data democratization and a culture of data driven decision-making and by empowering others to access, understand, and leverage data effectively across an organization. This position contributes to strong data governance and data hygiene practices across TWU’s information systems to ensure technology and information across campus serves the mission and vision of Trinity Western University.
Key Areas of Responsibility
- Data Collection & Analysis: Utilize SQL or similar programming languages to write queries that create datasets for institutional data analysis. Identify, collect, validate, and analyze both institutional and external data, such as data related to enrollment, retention, program efficiency, and student outcomes. Use statistical analyses to evaluate progress towards targets and policy objectives.
- Data Visualization & Dashboard Creation: Use PowerBI or similar tools to develop data visualizations and dashboards that present university demographics, performance metrics, benchmarks, student outcomes, and other information that supports academic program reviews.
- Compliance/Required Reporting: Prepare and submit annual reports to fulfill program quality and accreditation requirements for the BC Ministry of Advanced Education and the Tri-Council Agencies.
- Data Validation & Integrity: Ensure the integrity, accuracy, and consistency of data across various datasets and sources. Implement rigorous validation processes to identify and correct discrepancies, maintain data quality standards, and ensure reliable data for analysis and reporting.
- Data Governance: Promote data governance best practices, developing and documenting data definitions, common business language glossary and business rules.
- Decision-Making Support: Create insightful reports to aid university leaders in data-driven decision-making.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

- Problem-solver with demonstrated critical thinking ability to meet goals creatively.
- Experience with SQL, Python or similar query/programming language.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong ability to make decisions and to manage and prioritize multiple projects.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well both independently and in a team.
- Highly organized with a strong personal work ethic while modelling a cheerful demeanor.
- Ability to exercise tact and courtesy at all times to interact effectively and harmoniously with all members of the TWU community and as a member of the IT team.

Standards & Requirements
- Education: Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Social Science, or a related field.
Experience: Experience with report creation, dashboard design, relational databases, data standards and schemas. Experience working in a managed project environment.
