The Safety Codes Council is an independent, self-funded regulatory organization mandated to provide oversight of the system and technical disciplines through a number of key legislated functions and client focused services. We provide leadership by guiding, educating, supporting, and collaborating with all stakeholders in Alberta’s safety codes system.

**THE OPPORTUNITY**

Are you a results-driven communications professional ready to take your career to the next level? This is an exciting, high-impact opportunity to play a key role in leading strategic communications activities for the Safety Codes Council.

Reporting to the Manager of Communications and Member Relations, the Communications Specialist is responsible for internal and external communications activities for the Safety Codes Council and aligns communications activities with the strategic objectives and priorities of the Council. You are a passionate and persuasive communicator who thrives on interacting with stakeholders at all organizational levels, from front-line staff to the executive team. You are collaborative and creative with a keen eye for detail, bringing with you an innovative and diverse portfolio of experience.

Your role is responsible for developing strategic communications plans for key transformational projects and reporting their progress, and communicating to a variety of audiences through the web and on social media platforms. Working with a talented team of professionals, you will be a fundamental component of the voice of the Council.

**Key Responsibilities and Deliverables**
- Evaluate the Council’s communications needs and ensures the communications strategy is aligned with the Council’s strategic objectives.
- Provide editorial support including writing, copyediting and reviewing Council’s externally published documents including the Council’s Annual Report, Business Plan, and related publications.
- Research and develop content with the goal of educating the public and industry on key topics in the safety codes system; presenting technical information in an accessible manner.
- Develop and distribute communications collateral for the Council’s distinct stakeholder groups, ensuring that the content and distribution method is appropriate for the intended audience.
- Provide assistance with the Council’s website, including preparing and updating content and reviewing requests and feedback from internal and external stakeholders.
- Respond to inquiries from the public through the website, directing them to the appropriate team member or partner organization.
- Develop and execute a social media plan that disseminates information in support of the Council’s strategic direction and business initiatives; prepare content, including graphics, that reflects the Council’s goals and activities.

**Qualifications & Experience**
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations or Journalism or a related discipline
- Minimum four years of directly related and progressively responsible experience in communications at strategic and operational levels
- Experience in leading communications projects and initiatives
- Experience writing with Canadian Press style
- Basic graphic design and page-layout skills using Photoshop and InDesign

- Excellent expository, business, copywriting and editing skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative team setting as well as in an independent, self
- directed environment.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to exercise professional judgment and identify needs of various stakeholders and influence communications decisions.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, comfortable presenting to senior leadership.
- Experience in project management demonstrating an ability to plan and efficiently manage multiple tasks with high attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, creative environment.
- Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and discretion.
