Municipal Communications Specialist

We're looking for a passionate, experienced municipal communications expert to take on a three-month contract, with the potential for extension. Catalyst Communications is an expert in local government communications, helping organizations grow their internal capacity; providing sound advice based on best practice; and supporting organizations in their communications, engagement, and crisis communications needs.
This position is unique and exciting. We are proud to be able to work with municipalities across Canada in building their communications and engagement, and supporting them through difficult times.
**Responsibilities**
- Provide municipal clients with public communications support to varying degrees.
- Work with clients in supporting their organizational capacity, including but not limited to potentially working with an organization for extended periods as a member of their communications team.
- Strategize, design, and execute communications campaigns for clients.
- Take part in designing and facilitating public engagement processes.
- Support municipalities facing difficult times in a Crisis Communications capacity (in a support role; this work is led by others within the company).
**Qualifications**
- Experience working specifically in local government communications.
- A completed 2-year diploma or a degree in a related field such as Communications, Public Relations, Business, or Journalism, supplemented by 5 or more years of progressive experience.
- A deep knowledge and understanding of local government.
- Proficient using Microsoft Office Suite tools (Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
- Proficient using Canva.
- Intermediate proficiency using Adobe products is an asset.
- A designation as an Accredited Public Relations (APR), Accredited Business Communicator (ABC), and/or as a Certified Public Participation Professional (CP3) is considered an asset.
- ICS100 or highger-level training is considered an asset.
- You are a creative thinker with strong organizational skills, political sensitivity, and the ability to coach staff and leaders working for various organizations.
