Who We Are
Canada’s Drug Agency is a pan-Canadian health organization. We are an independent, not-for-profit organization headquartered in Ottawa, with a satellite office in Toronto. Created and funded by Canada’s federal, provincial, and territorial governments, we drive better coordination, alignment, and public value within Canada’s drug and health technology landscape. We provide Canada’s health system leaders with independent evidence and advice so they can make informed drug, health technology, and health system decisions, and we collaborate with national and international partners to enhance our collective impact.
We are represented by a talented and highly skilled team of professionals with expertise in clinical and health economics research, information services and librarianship, policy analysis, ethics, administration, web, IT, translation and publishing. Through our day-to-day efforts, we continue to uphold our reputation for excellence. In turn, we are committed to nurturing an engaging workplace that fosters a diverse and inclusive culture, anchored in mutual respect and the promotion of wellness and well-being.
Why Intern with Canada’s Drug Agency?
As an Intern, you will gain a unique understanding of how drugs and devices move from federal regulatory approval to public listing and availability in provincial and territorial health systems. You will gain a deeper understanding of our contribution to that process, and the importance of providing evidence and advice to jurisdictional leaders to help inform decisions.
What are the opportunities offered?
The Evidence, Products, and Services business unit is 1 of the 6 business units. It includes the Medical Devices and Clinical Interventions team, the Pharmaceutical Reviews team, and the Appropriate Use team, which are responsible for providing eligible health care customers in Canada with up-to-date evidence regarding the use of health technologies. The Medical Devices and Clinical Interventions team works on health system issues and medical technologies broadly, including companion diagnostics, precision medicine, and medical imaging.
We are currently looking for a talented student to bring their dedication, passion, and innovative ideas to a meaningful and stimulating 4-month internship position in the Medical Devices and Clinical Interventions team.
The Intern will have the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing work of the Medical Devices Clinical Interventions team and hone their evidence synthesis and report writing skills. They will build strong complementary skills in critically appraising evidence and will have the opportunity to support projects in different portfolios, giving them a broader understanding of health technology assessments.
The tasks will vary according to the successful applicant’s interest area and will be discussed and coordinated during the offer process. Some essential functions may include, but are not limited to:

- performing preliminary screening and article selection from literature searches, and extracting data from studies to be included in reports
- preparing and presenting research findings to internal teams and external committees
- assisting with the Testing Procedure Assessment program, the Canadian Medical Imaging Inventory program, and/or reviews of health system issues
- participating in the review process, including attending internal and external meetings, reviewing sponsor submissions, and/or writing reports
- learning about health systems at Canada’s Drug Agency and how the ecosystem partners work
- collaborating with various internal and external partners and collaborators
- conducting research, administrative, and operational tasks
- participating as a team member in team meetings, all-staff monthly meetings, and other events
- interacting with other teams as required to support current priorities and initiatives in alignment with corporate objectives.

Is this the right role for you?
**The Intern will likely have**:

- experience in data analysis and report writing, and interest in producing business insights
- related experience writing or preparing reports in a health research environment
- strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines
- a willingness to take initiative and demonstrate innovative thinking
