**Home Support Aide - Dartmouth and Sackville**

The Home Support Aide works under the direct supervision of the Nurse Supervisor and is responsible for carrying out home support services to clients in their own homes. The services may include light housekeeping, meal preparation and laundry.

**PRIMARY DUTIES** **AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Maintaining the focus on client independence, health status, safety and quality of life is an ongoing Home Support Aide’s responsibility. You may perform any one or a combination of the following:

- Light Housekeeping
- Laundry (personal)
- Meal Preparation

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES**:

- Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships; build rapport and trust with clients through use of interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to interact with vulnerable and diverse populations, in a sensitive, empathic, and compassionate manner.
- Ability to function as a team player, respecting other care providers involved in the total care plan.
- Ability to organize and carry out tasks efficiently; work independently and to respond appropriately to emergency situations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.

**REQUIREMENTS**:

- First Aid and CPR
- Criminal Records Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
- Food Handler Certification
- Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS) Certificate
- Access to reliable transportation.
- Flexibility to work days, evenings, and weekends.
- All team members are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and provide proof of vaccination upon hire or provide a valid medical exemption.

**JUDGMENT AND INITIATIVE REQUIREMENTS**:

- Home Support Aides must possess the ability to observe and recognize changes in the client’s condition requiring follow up with their Supervisor.
- A high degree of tact, judgment, and confidentiality is required, especially in dealing with clients, and their families.
- The incumbent should be highly motivated and self-directed.
