**Casual / Relief, Residential Caseworker - Ellen House**
The Casual (Relief) Residential Caseworker assists in managing the day-to-day operations of the Ellen House Residence, a female adult community based residential facility supporting provincially and federally sentenced women, as well as women from the community accessing emergency shelter beds through a transitional period of finding permanent housing. Women are accepted from the community, Provincial and Federal correctional systems where individualized plans of care are developed to assist the women in addressing such concerns as substance abuse, anger management, physical/ sexual abuse, employment challenges, educational upgrading and life skills.
**Areas of Responsibility**:
- Provides direct service, resource referrals, crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and advocacy with emphasis placed on developing appropriate resources and connections to community support and services in order to facilitate successful reintegration
- Responsible for providing guidance regarding problem-solving while encouraging the development and enhancement of skills and techniques required for successful reintegration
- Maintains all security and safety systems with the Residence
- Participates in the shift schedule rotation as part of our 24 hour staffing model
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date records and statistics regarding all aspects of service delivery
- Familiar with each resident’s individual plan of care in order to identify needs, recommend changes and provide assistance that is consistent with the overall plan for each individual
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Manager or designate
- 1-3 years’ experience in a residential setting and/or educational background in a relevant field (prior experience with adult females is considered an asset)
- Knowledge of Ministry of the Solicitor General (MSG) and Correctional Service Canada (CSC) policies and procedures is considered an asset
- Practical knowledge of gender specific/responsive programming; assessment/counselling skills are essential
- Excellent problem solving and leadership skills, with the ability to judiciously handle crisis situations with clients within the residential facility and/or community
- Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with diverse community groups and other stakeholders in order to provide inter-agency and intra-agency networking and liaising ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of programs
- Awareness of and commitment to women’s issues
- Experience working with communities who face multiple barriers such as poverty, discrimination, criminalization and lack of housing
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- A valid driver’s license with a clean driving abstract
- Valid CPR and First Aid Certification
- Full vaccination against COVID-19. and able to provide proof
